Question About Updating from Old Radio

Hello All,

I was wondering when flashing a new modem, does it matter what old modem you are coming from. The reason I ask is DK17 and the files names for the new radios are like eb13- ec05 and DI18 to EC05, I cant find one that has DK17 to EC05 (I think that is the newest)

Unlocked Epic
Froyo 2.2.1 - Epic Experience
radio - DK17
Hardware revision is 5

Thx all,

Force

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

Considering your on a beta rom..yes you need to odin..for odin, flash file is irrevelant...

Or instead of odin you can run the EB13 Tool (this will repace the entire rom/kernel/modem)...(still requires a pc)

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

Thanks for the help Tgen,

I wanted to keep root so will I lose it if I update using the new exe ( I think you are refering to this post http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-epi...sung-live.html)

I thought the rom I loaded was from a newer release.

Thx,
Force

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

Just noticed it was in wrong spot..moved to general forum

The latest Epic Experience is based on EB13, latest is EC05...

The EB13 is newer then DK17 for sure though...

And yes that tool is EB13

It goes like this:

first letter is the year:

D=2010
E=2011

second letter is month:

A=Jan
B=Feb
C=Mar
and etc...

so EB13= feb 13th 2011, EC05 = march 5th 2011, DK17 = November 17th 2010

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

So how do I update my radio/modem? I have a few files but none have an update from my old modem.

Also if I use the official exe update from samsung will that take away root?

Thanks again,
Force

If you want to update ONLY the modem, you gotta download the modem tar and odin.

if you use the EB13 tool that will wipe you fresh and remove clockwork and root yes, but its fairly simple to re-root...

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

One last thing tGen and I will donate to you (send me your email)

On the Evo and I heard on the Epic, you can update your radio with booting into clockwork. I have 2 files, both are .zip

DI18 to EC05_Modem_Update
&
eb13-ec05

Since I have radio DK17 can I use these? Also do I have to use Odin? (clockwork likes .zip but I dont have a new radio to use odin with)

Thx again tGen (send me your email)

"DI18 to EC05_Modem_Update" will update only if you have DI18 radio to EC05 radio

and

"eb13-ec05" will update EB13 radio to EC05 radio..

these are only available zip files for upgrading..dk17 was a beta.not official radio...thus odin or eb tool is only way at the moments to get out of that radio..sorry...

As for donating, don't worry about it..if you wish to donate just donate to ppcg or some charity...

Re: Question About Updating from Old Radio

FYI thanks again tGen and I think I got it all figured out.

I used Odin and flashed the newest modem, now I have EC05 listed in settings. Also is there a PRL or something I should flash as well? Seems to easy, as the Evo had a bunch of radio like files to flash (radio, wimax, prl etc).

Finally I think you use Bonsai as your go-to rom so I will donate to them.

Later,
Force
