Upgrading to a custom Froyo for idiots?

Hi!

I looked around and can't find anything on this site that explains the basics needed to upgrade to a custom Froyo setup on my Epic. Is there anything for the beginner who just wants an upgrade? Is there any help that breaks it down step by step and explains the terms (e.g. rooted, etc)

Also, I saw a custom upgrade TrulyEpic Rebirth is anyone familiar with it? One of the things I read on different sites is that it allows the epic to have video chat on Skype. What i want most from my Epic that it is missing is Voice command, better battery life, and video chat on Skype.

My alternative is to return my Epic and wait until Sprint upgrades to Froyo and return to my Touch Pro until then. I appreciate help.
