Navigation, Screen Off, and Receiving Phone Calls

First, I am stock DI18.

The other day I was using Sprint Navigation, and tried hitting the power button to turn the screen off. This worked great, it still spoke out loud to not take the next exit, etc. (I tried this because on a previous trip, plugged into power the entire time it still seemed to eat battery, with the daylight screen. Trying this may help with battery use). A couple of times I hit the power button again and it was great, right back to the nav app, my exact location, just perfect. It even didn't ask for the finger pattern code. So I was thrilled.

Then I got my first phone call while the screen was off. Here is where things were strange. The screen came on, but I had to enter the finger code just to get to the 3 way answer, ignore, ignore with txt screen. Once answered, the speaker phone didn't work.

I was wondering if anyone with custom rom, how this worked for them?
