To be fair though..when we get froyo it will be 2.2.1..HTC does not have Froyo 2.2.1 out yet either..so the delya may be more 2.2.1 related rather then 2.2 only related.

That also makes the assumption that HTC won't release 2.2.1 before Samsung does. IMO, Samsung is only interested in pushing new phones and tabs, and not maintenance on their existing product lines. Despite the laziness I call HTC on with their constant recycling aging parts in their phones, they keep pushing out software updates fairly regularly. There's no reason that Samsung couldn't push a radio one month, then froyo the next, then 2.2.1. Show us some love Samsung!

What's Samsung's excuse going to be when they wait 6 or 7 months to push out an update, and it's still crap, the recycled radio with broken GPS that went out to every single carrier or the update that broke the upload speeds, the list goes on--where was testing then? How do you not see where their interests lie? It clear to me however the amounts of different Galaxy S devices floating around right now though and new ones being released regularly...

I'm not saying that the phone is complete crap, but we really need to stop making excuses as to why Samsung hasn't released an update. It really doesn't matter, history hasn't changed very much from all the other failed promises on their other product lines. Most phones are only supported from the carrier about a year before there replaced by whatever comes out next. You should be able to enjoy the device you buy the majority of the time your own it, not the last 5 months before it's replaced with the latest fad and no longer supported. It's December 2010, and still no flash--what does Steve Jobs own some stock in Samsung or something?!

Wel Samsung already released the Froyo update to some places in the world and it has 2.2.1 which would mean they beat HTC already, no? lol...that said the fact that HTC recycles hardware parts makes it easier to push updates..why? because when you reuse same hardware part you don't need to do major changes to the software one you got it right..

Every company's interest is to sell more..but regardless those of us that got the Epic got the most stable and smooth android device to date..while they made a few hiccups they are working ti fix them...so far epic got 2 updates since first released (one on release day)..so its not like they aren't working on it..

Samsung is actually one of Apple's biggest providers...in 2010Q1 Apple bought 800 million $ worth of parts from samsung >.>..*whistle*

That said, playing with 2.2.1 Nov 17th beta we can see a lot of improvements in GPS and in general to the device..but its a little bit laggy here and there..aka its just not ready to be released...even without 2.2 the Epic is still one of the best devices on the market..simple as that...

Re: Samsung keeps up with it's long line of not upgrading phones!

What the devs have come up with so far is really impressive, and that's without having the source code to write new kernels. I agree that Samsung would get better press if they pushed out their official updates faster, but it seems to me that the whole point of Android is that the community can work on it and improve it. Sammy has released 99% if what we need to get that done, including 2 Froyo leaks. It might not be everything everyone wants, especially for those who don't know how to root/mod their phone (or even care to learn), but for those of us that are creative enough to think outside the box, I think its moving along nicely. I look at it more like playing around with Android is a journey, not a destination.

I agree. I don't know why they are being defended. At this rate the epic is NOT getting the newest version gingerbread. I'm waiting on gingerbreads release to buy a phone.

Increased release cycle = increased bugs that are missed.

One thing that I like about what I read about gingerbread is making it more modular with built in components. It would be nice to have samsung and other companies to push a thin update with kernels/drivers. and then all the applications come from the market place.
making yum/apt-able would be killer.

I guess I'm just annoyed that they called this a "flagship" phone. Flagship devices usually require more attention to detail then any other product they offer. I just don't see that happening with the Galaxy S line. I just see mass production with lousy/slow customer service. If this was just any other phone line that wasn't hyped so much or they didn't charge premium pricing for this phone, I can understand the delays, but for a company trying to repair their name in the cellular business, I'm just not that impressed.

As far as some of the other parts of the world getting Froyo first, how much longer was the phone released there, I thought Europe saw it in early June? So it took 6 months or so to get that out, that also means that they've been working on these issues for alot longer and we just keep waiting and waiting. This is the same phone spread across dozens of carriers, one GSM chipset variant and one CDMA chipset, probably most of the same internal parts though. At&T and TMobile updates should have been released the same time as Europe was and CDMA shortly afterwards.

They could have gave us 2.2 months ago and then 2.2.1 sometime later and more slowly like HTC is doing. But hey, I shouldn't complain they made sure they released their Samsung Media Hub in a timely fashion before fixing anything else, which just shows again what the company's priorities are.

**Late Addition**: Also they hyped the fact that Froyo was coming soon as a selling point, not 5 months or later as it seems to be taking. For one year life of sales before being replaced by say "The Galaxy 2", 5 months or longer shouldn't be considered as soon...
