Re: Time Without Signal
It's a well known problem on a lot of Android phones, including some EVOs as well... some with newer Epics appear to not have the problem but I do... the easiest fix until it's officially addressed, is to toggle airplane mode on and then quickly off every time you turn your phone off and/or reboot... the other fix is to use Tasker, and set it to periodically toggle airplane mode (this is what I currently use)... when you toggle airplane mode if TWS is high, watch it over the next couple hours and it will creep down dramatically to low single digits eventually... good luck...

If you type: *#4636*1111# and go to phone info and scroll down to the bottom it will say WCDMA Preferred or something like that. Once you perform the airplane toggle trick it will reset the radio and when you go back to this menu it will switch to unkown. Lot of people speculated that WCDMA is used for searching for GSM satellites, thus it leaves you with time without signal. This can drain battery faster, especially when you have low signal and it's polling to find GSM towers/signal. You can also reset the radio by just updating profile/prl but toggling airplane mode is a lot easier. Here is the link over at XDA if you want to read more: [How-To] Better battery life, reduce Time Without Signal. - xda-developers I've found that you need to do this on every reboot. Some people have a program to automatically do this but I do it manually when I reboot once a month

Re: Time Without Signal
It is not a trick... it fixes the issue somehow... it is not just gaming the numbers... your TWS goes down dramatically, which is what affects your battery drain... I don't know what it is about toggling airplane mode, but somebody figured this out early on and it does actually work... my battery is noticeable better than if I cold boot and don't toggle...

I'll do more than that. When I get home I'm going to add this to the wiki.
