Why is the epic 4gs battery so wildly inconsistent?

I just listened to 30 minutes of music from http://stream.WUNH.org:8000 and the battery went down from 70% to 30%... The screen was off and everything.
Btw: I was using tune wiki to listen to the stream.

Only for about 15 minutes while I was in walmart.

I swapped batteries and then went into a huge cement building for 2hrs and the battery life is looking a lot better.

so from that time to right now, and the battery warning came up when I just looked at it.
hm... the cell standby is at 38%, display is at 23%, phone idle 17%, android system 6%, email 4%, voice calls are 3%.

Hmm...did you install anything lately? or flashed new rom/etc?

Also I bought myself for 8$ from ebay 2 batteries and 1 external battery charger...running on the battery now and have it almost 9 hours and above 50%..AND so far I'm tethering on it for an hour or 2...I'm just hoping these Chinese batteries won't deteriorate fast...but so far its not bad for 8$..and while I run them I have my main battery charge externally..

Ive got an extra standard battery but Ive got a screen protector and I paid $7.99 to have someone installed it for me at Best Buy, a front and back case with a detachable holster clip mounted on my waist. It's a bitch trying to replace a battery by mid day when you're so moving at fast pace you might as well lose your battery if you're not so forgetful. F*ck that.. I rather a big Fat battery that would turn my phone into a net book if I have to.

You know I actually found that ironic..but has anyone else notice they made the Epic battery impossible to take out unless you use a stylus/pen..>.> lol...but for me I use Tethering a lot on the go..so its kinda necessary...plus I can charge 2 batteries at once

On the epic:
I use my fingernail to take out the battery door cause it just pops right out. When you see the battery -just look to the bottom right corner you'll see an indent spacing below the battery for your fingers. I can only imagine you'll need stylus if your fingers were any bigger than that. lol j/k But if you have a front/back casing and a plastic holster for your phone... FORGET IT.

Unlike the palm pre (or palm pixi) I had an extended 2600mAh battery that was thicker than a treo, lasted me all day. I wanted to install a front/back case with it but none of the accessories made one for the extended batteries. So I decided to go with a front screen protector and a universal rugged pouch mounted on my waist... as for the battery you have to squeeze and hold until it pops out from the bottom to the top back of the phone. When you put the battery door back on, you hook the top on first then lay it down to the bottom the same way with the epic. This was so much easier to manage.
protection: I actually got out the car forgetting that it was still on my lap... got out of car NOT hearing it fall out, stepped on it real hard I heard a loud scrape... when I saw the phone face down on the road I picked it up and it was still looking good as new.. but the battery door was scratch up a little bit because I dropped my phone 200 times before. But that didn't hurt my investment since it's not the original door that came with the phone. It's in fact a better door than the one that came with this phone.

And I did that because I'm a clumsy type. I been doing this since I was 18 when I walked right out the sprint store after signing a new contract. I dropped my phone literally in front of me while a car ran over it.
