VP, VRS Providers, and their P2P softwares

Many sought after devices with front facing cameras have someone in front of it. Some who are regulars just like us. And some who are deaf in terms of "disability". Well my friend, I've discovered a scheme that exist among the providers of Video Relay Services who take advantage of this technology to improve sales and profit in their business. It's called Exclusivity rights! Pretty much like NFL app being exclusive to Verizon but we on Sprint would also like to use it... Can you believe it...Mainstream VRS has software exclusivity rights to HTC EVO 4G? Therefore any VRS provider (I favorably ZVRS) that develop their software for P2P available on the HTC EVO cannot support it because the other VRS provider claims the HTC EVO first! Regulars and Deaf individuals alike who own an HTC EVO, both which have front facing cameras can video call eachother via Fring or Qik or Tango. But there's something more and something that unfortunately the iphone can't do at the moment which is P2P video calling. If you go to market and download a copy of VP provided by Mainstream VRS...The Android software uses SIP & H.323 to make/receive calls, thus allowing Mainstream to provide a Local Number to the customer's software. You can reach them by calling that number via VRS call them as their number is officially the number in the US numbering system. As mandated by law, all VRS providers must assign a local number to the user.

But the sad fact is you can't frigging use it because it's exclusive only to the device...which is HTC Evo (with 2.2 update.) Now damn if I care... how do I trick my epic to make this app think it's on HTC Evo?
Or how do I get the app altered to make it available to just about any android device and not the Stupid Exclusive HTC Evo? It's So NOT fair...

Re: VP, VRS Providers, and their P2P softwares

Guess we'll have to wait until ZVRS releases Z4 mobile for the epic in the future..

Here's a video demonstration... don't get upset if you didn't understand what the guy's talking about... he's just doing a demonstration. That's all.

YouTube - VP200 & EVO 4G Call Demo Test

When you open the app, First you have to register, it reads:

This application will create a user ID and password at MainstreamVRS

Video Relay Service (VRS) is only available to eligible deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

All individuals will be contacted by MainstreamVRS to confirm they are eligible for services.

This application only works on Sprint HTC EVO 4G phones and requires Android version 2.2 or greater

You must log into the google market before you can register with MainstreamVRS. If you haven't one this yet, please located the 'Market' icon on your phone and follow the instructions.

------------------register---------------------

As soon as I press the register button goes to the next screen says:

your phone type is NOT supported by MainstreamVRS

you need to upgrade your Android Operating system to 2.2 or greater

Edit:
it won't let me go any further...
it totally dumb!
Why...even the epic shares the same capability as the evo.. it hasn't EVERYTHING to do with Exclusivity.

It didn't take me to a website.. it was more like the app detects whether you're using the Evo with 2.2 or not. I'm already on Froyo 2.2 so the warning message is directly related to the hardware I'm using right now. I have droidwall (firewall) installed so any new app that gets installed don't have access to the internet until I apply the rules first.

Here go to this video and skip to 2:40
YouTube - Go to register VRS for HTC EVO 4G!
But it cuts off after he opens the app. But that's pretty much what you see when you first open it the opening greeting tells you to register. Try it yourself you'll see. You don't need to have root access to use it. Unless you find a way to use it even if it means you need to have root access to use it on the epic.
