Galaxy S uprade 2.2

Samsung comes clean with Galaxy S Froyo upgrade dates: all carriers in November -- Engadget

Just saw this, thought I would share for the rest of the Epic owners and other Galaxy S owners out there. Too bad we dont have a set date yet.

My guess is they are trying to iron out some things...it says that in the article...

But Galaxy Tab comes with 2.2 so it will 100% have to be done by then.

We will just have to wait until the release it. Better that than to get it and have more issues than before. It's not ready yet so they pulled it.

the last update I did made it so Twitter and Facebook logs me out every single day.

I dont understand what is there to fix. Google already made the OS. I do not need the samsung software and would not need touch wiz.
I wish there was a way to get this without having touchwiz so we can get our updates on time.

The community is working on it..but it takes time...right now the ones doing most of the development are the people who developed for the samsung moment..those used to HTC are contributing too but it takes time for them to get familiar with the platform...once a lot of the stuff are rewritten we will have more control.

Oh sorry, I did not mean the active developers who are taking their own time to fix phone problems. I meant Samsung as a company. If they do not want to program they should at least put a little effort and let people download the OS without the carrier specific software or touchwiz

Its not so simple...see devices are made by each manufacturer in their own way...could you load a Froyo rom on your Epic? sure you can..it just won't boot because it requires drivers and other things to get all the components working..so its not as simple as that unless all the component manufacturers pick up a standard for communicating to that said component.

Re: Galaxy S uprade 2.2

I'm thinking it also has to do with contractual requirements with Sprint or the other carriers. Sprint wants you to use TouchWiz, and doesn't want you to be able to update without it working 100%. That's my thought process.

testacon 10-28-2010 11:52 AM

Re: Galaxy S upgrade 2.2

Here's a puzzling question I cringe to ask...

Why was there an announcement about the Sprint Galaxy S Tab arriving with Froyo on it weeks ago for a release date of 11/14, but no announcement about when the Epic will get 2.2? Sure there was a BROAD announcement saying in November but I have a feeling it was for European based countries and not for the US.

Samsung must have some steel cojones if they release another Galaxy S device with 2.2 pre-installed before patching their existing lineup! Kind of sad for a flagship phone if you ask me...

My husband told me the other day that he read somewhere that Samsung is committed to getting 2.2 on all Galaxy S phones on all carriers by the end of November.

Here we go, via Engadget.

Yes, they did say all carriers worldwide.

Everyone is better than Sony. With a mixture of Samsung and Sprint, we are most likely looking at a mid summer 2011 update to 2.2.

Why not just skip it and go for Gingerbread? LOL. :fueltofire:

gxnext 11-01-2010 11:45 PM

I wouldn't mind skipping it for gingerbread if it was guaranteed to get it... Otherwise I atleast want froyo just incase it doesn't....

epic 4g froyo beta has been leaked on xda.
the op was scared of just releasing it as it may have identifiers. he has given it to noobnl, our epic 4g saviour.
as to what hes goinig to do with it, who knows?
he could try to remove all the personal info and release a stock 2.2 beta rom, or he could use it to better hi andromeda rom. either way, froyo seems to be just around the corner.

Froyo now in beta testing - xda-developers

Yea but if you DL that they will most likely do the same thing HTC did and make it to where you cant DL any updates until you take your phone into sprint to get it fixed. That or it will be forever till we find a way around it again just like with the Evo. The man has his eye on us all...lol

Wirelessly posted (The Most EPIC ppc.: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; SPH-D700 Build/ECLAIR) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

The leaker was a newb, so noobnl helped him dump it over irc, so noobnl has it but only gave it to a few people over privacy concerns. So unfourtunatly no one has it now.
I would think using odin, getting back to stock to get the real acual froyo update when it releases shouldn't be a problem right? I odin'd back to stock to get the last updte and it came through with no issues.

It was a problem when the one leaked for the Evo, No one could do anything for like 2 months.

Yes, but its not a problem for us..Odin is pretty much the tool Samsung themselves uses to flash phones..and we have access to that tool..so we can go back and forth whenever we please :)

In the Market there is an app called "tAttachApkInstaller". You could give this a try - I have not tried this app personally so I don't know if it will work, but couldn't hurt to try.....Good luck!

Edit:
Found another app called "APKatcher" (you could try this one too if the other doesn't work)

No. It was given to noobnl of the cm6 team. He'd made it available to a very few other devs. Its a popular topic at xda. Prolly 5 threads about it.

Re: Galaxy S uprade 2.2

to any one interested in using this leak,, its going smoof as balls for me. i cleared storage 3 times and wiped both caches first and flashed this zip with clockwork and its working great. the program manager has some built in ram sweeping options and its got a way better music player. besides that, flash!!!!!!!
STILL NO TV OUT!!!!!
STILL NO LANDSCAPE SUPPORT ON THE HOME SCREEN!!!!!!!!
STILL DOESNT UTILIZE THE AUDIO OUT ON MY "MEDIA" DOCK!!!!!
other than that its not too terrible.
anyway, here it is.
