Battery stops charging while tethering

My Epic stops charging while tethering. I noticed it gets a little warm, but it's not scorching hot. Turning it off makes it rechargeable. I had this problem on the Touch Pro, but didn't expect it on the Epic. Guess most smartphones are designed with protection circuitry to disable charging when it gets too hot. It happened last night as well while streaming music over WiFi, and today in the car while streaming music over 3G. It just flat out stops charging. I'm using the factory charger, as well as Samsung OEM car and travel chargers.

It might stop charging but I bet you'll also notice that the battery isn't discharging either. I had my phone tethered all day last week and it stayed at 75% all day.

Yes, I believe you're right. Do you know of a battery monitor application that shows the current drain as well as charge?

Re: Battery stops charging while tethering

I had my battery after being plugged in for 20min-2hrs jump up to 100%, but then 30 minutes later when I pulled it off, it would drop back down to where it was.

Yeah, I take my statement back. I'm using MobileAP. It was at almost a full charge before I turned on MobileAP. After about 3 hours, I pulled the charger out and instantly received a low battery notification. It's definitely not charging. This time, it's pretty warm. Close to hot actually.

When Tethering, I suggest placing it on a metal surface..this acts as a heat sink to prevent heating..

Can you suggest, maybe, a laptop cooling pad that would sufficiently remove the heat?

Coincidently a laptop cooling pad is what I use..an old one that the power plug snapped off so I just use it for phone cooling lol

But I wouldn't exactly say thats needed..I've even used a hand memo book that had a metal cover for same effect >.>

Re: Battery stops charging while tethering

I believe I am in the right place, but I'm quite new to this subject. I just bought Epic 4G and am trying hotspot for $30/month, but have a feeling that with one laptop I can leave quite well with only tethering. I just need to know how to do it and what is needed to try it: application mame and location, special cable, etc. Any help? Thanks!

Re: Battery stops charging while tethering

Just to add. 3G tethered mode on Epic gives only option to Connect to data services using dial up network (which is nonsense). Also read about rooting and am completely ignorant about this, too.
