Backing up / restoring system apps

OK, I am about to pull put my hair! Both times Sprint put out an update I had to flash to stock in order to get them because I can't figure out how to back up and then later restore all the bloatware.

-I opened Titanium Backup and backed up all user apps + system data (I have the paid version of TB)
-I then opened Root Manager and backed up all system apps
-Then using Root Manager I removed Asphalt 5 Demo and rebooted
-Next I opened Titanium Backup and found the backup of Asphalt 5, but there was no restore button!!!!
-So I go back into Root Manager, go to App Backup/Restore, switch to Restore Mode and there is nothing there. Zip. Zero. Nada. It didn't back up anything.

WTF am I doing wrong? I really want to get rid of all the Sprint crap but I don't want to have to flash back to stock when the next update comes out. Someone please explain to me how I can back up all the bloatware, delete it and be able to restore it later if need be.

I'm assuming you are rooted, correct? Personally, I used the SDX App remover program. You can download it here:

**Guide** Remove Unwanted Stock Apps - Safe .APK's to Remove and How To

You can use this app to backup/delete/restore apps that you have removed. You just need to be rooted to use it.

Hope that helps.

Have you installed the busy box that comes with Titanium after hitting "Problems?" I find that it helps a lot.

Yes I am rooted, and yes I have updated Busybox. I am going to check out the guide on SDX.

Yeah, that's a whole nother issue.....I tried to install Clockwork for an hour and gave up. Maybe it will install now that I am updated to DI18.

Well, there's an hour of my life I'll never get back. After several tries I finally installed Clockwork (after having updated to DI18) and my phone got stuck in Clockwork Recovery mode!!! No matter what I did it would just toggle between a blank screen and the Clockwork Recovery screen. Every choice I selected would simply give me a blank screen, and then I would hit either the back or home buttons and the recovery screen would come back. I even pulled the battery and when I turned it back on (just pressing the power button, not touching the volume or camera buttons) and it would come back on into Clockwork Recovery!!!! I had to use Odin and flash it back to stock (AGAIN!!!!!AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!)

Anybody have any idea what happened?

No idea what happened there but you aren't alone when trying to install Clockwork. IMHO, I think it's a big waste of time. There aren't even that many ROM's to flash and with 2.2 around the corner, even if you did get Clockwork installed it'll probably be all for not since you'll have to reflash to stock again to get the 2.2 update.

I read through the whole thread over at XDA and I still couldn't figure out the steps to get it installed. Figure I'll wait until the process becomes a little more refined and 2.2 drops before I even mess with Clockwork.

There are 2 ways to install clockwork:

1) If you have a custom kernal with clockwork support, you can flash via Rom Manager.

2) If you are using the stock kernal, the one click clock work method is the way to go.if the run-try-first doesn't work run-try-last usually does...

I have the stock kernal and I used method #2. I did exactly what you recommended and got the results I posted above.
