Re: Sharing my Juice Defender settings

UPDATE: I had to change my "Traffic" setting. I was trying to stream pandora and slacker radio and when the screen went black, the data connection dropped. Apparently the streaming radio stations don't "use" enough traffic to stay above the default. My new traffic setting is as follows:

Traffic - Keep data/wifi alive if > 5k / 1min.

This seems to work well to allow streaming if you want to. When you're done streaming, the data connection shuts down.

Hope this helps.

Re: Sharing my Juice Defender settings

Using Juice Defender Ultimate and have found a significant benefit to battery life... the one issue I have is asking for help with the optimal settings to allow the stock gmail app to continue to work properly with imap idle push email notifications... unless I allow peak times certain hours, the app does not seem to function very well, and might as well be pop vs push... can anyone using Ultimate who has found the right settings please pass along?

Right now my settings are:
Timeout: Do Nothing
Schedule: Enable Data for 3m every 1hr
Night: Do Nothing
Battery: Keep data disabled while below 10%
Traffic: Leave data enabled while >5kb/1m
Peak: Leave data enabled 8am-7pm
Apps: Do Nothing
Screen: Leave data enabled while screen unlocked
Location: Do Nothing

Thanks!

Part of the reason for your problem is your data connection is turned off and your mail app can't push to the device without data. I'm not sure how to alleviate this unless you allow during peak hours (like you're doing) .. another setting you can do to offset it (some) is your night setting. Set it to keep data off from 10pm until 6am for example.

you could also try to use the schedule to allow more frequency if you need it.

Re: Sharing my Juice Defender settings

Back to my gmail problem, it works fine when I allow regular data during peak hours, but this sort of defeats the purpose of even using juice defender... I read elsewhere you can allow apps to work, so I clicked on the app button, and allowed gmail... it now has two green arrows next to it in the program... but even with that setting enabled, if I turn off peak data, gmail push still does not function regularly... any other ideas or am I using this app setting incorrectly? Thx

When I play with the "apps" function it says

Quote:
juicedefender will enforce enabled or disabled connectivity if any of the configured apps is visible (either in the foreground or in the notification area).
It seems as if gmail has to be "visible" for it to be allowed all the time, however, by having gmail 'visible' and 'allowed' all the time, your data connection will be available all the time.

For your purposes, it most likely won't work well for you.

You could increase the scheduled amount of time that it 'turns on data' for your apps to sync..

I hope this helps.

Re: Sharing my Juice Defender settings

How do apps handle no data connection? Do they keep trying over and over to connect to data, do they only try on their schedule, or are they smart enough to wait for data to become available, then connect immediately?
