PPCGeeks FTP Site released.

The ftp site is ready for all users to use. So guidelines tho.

1. There will be NO warez, keygens and/or full programs stored on the ftp.
2. Do NOT upload "Crossbow"!
3. Treat it as your own. And do NOT trash it.
4. Do not use spaces instead use _ in names. Or you will have issues trying to link to it.
5. Enjoy the NO wait downloads!
6. PPCGeeks (me or ISP) will not be held responsible for an file that may harm your system that is downloaded. I recommend you scan everything first just in case. ;)

Now to the info. You can view and download by pointing your browser to ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks.com

Or use a FTP program such as CoreFTP.
Host - up.ppcgeeks.com
Username - PPCGeeks
Password - EZUpload

And if anyone wants to do ahead and upload the ROMs posted here from rapidshare. Feel free to do so. Just make sure you name them correctly with user and aku info.
Enjoy,
Mike

Good news!

ImCoKeMaN 02-02-2007 10:54 AM

Take a look in the Apache section  Very nice to have the FTP!

sfaure03 02-02-2007 11:33 AM

ImcokeMaN:

Your url that you posted the 3.5 to, well it needs the passwords adjusted. I sugguest you edit it before ya get a room full of whining about it not working.

I'm downloading the 3.5 image now, and will give you some feed back.

Thanks for the FTP site. I actually broke down and bought a month of RapidShare to keep up, now thats money wasted.........

BakCompat 02-02-2007 11:55 AM

hooray. It's ProFTPd, so i know it's a goodie.. I take it that space limitations are not of a concern? Or will that perhaps be an issue later? I suspect once more people start cooking their own custom roms, we will see many branches of each rom threading out to multiple areas via FTP.

Since i foolishly left my phone at home this morning, i'll start grabbing as many files from rapidshare and uploading them to the ftp site amidst my calls with techs in the field.

schettj 02-02-2007 12:44 PM

For the Kitchen, we should only need to upload DELTAs off the main kitchen (ie, for 3.5, just OS and LOC) and of course just a bunch of OEMs for everything else.

Pibe38 02-02-2007 01:51 PM

Also, NO UPLOADING OF THE PALM THREADED SMS APPLICATION!!!

Thanks!!! Enjoy!!!

BiGMatTFRomJeRSeY 02-02-2007 03:57 PM

very nice. hey mike when u get time can u pm all the info on this. like where u can purchase and how much it cost a mouth and all that good stuff. thanks man

Pibe38 02-02-2007 08:31 PM

We also wanted to ask everyone to upload files as .ZIP files if possible and to always give credit where it is due.

Make sure you mention the author and version of the app, you can do this by just adding a small TXT file to the ZIP file or even on the name of the file (I personally prefer TXT files, you can see some examples already uploaded on the Applications folder, but this is not required).

Finally, unless the name of the file is descriptive enough, please make sure to explain what the app does on the TXT file (kind of like a readme file).

Hey wide, I just tried using coreFTP and with the current host name you have i kept getting incorrect login. I tried the ftp address and that worked. Just wanted to mention that for other people that might try it.

naigaboy 02-02-2007 09:56 PM

no capital letters with the password either or just the user name? just asking b4 i try again. the way he wrote it in the first post works with the ftp url.

Its currently set to 80GB of storage and the bw has not been throttled down. And if more space I needed I will add it. But if I find abuse have have to put a bw limit on it I will.

updated to add the no spaces.....it causes linking issues.
thanks,
mike

Can i put ring tones here?

xarses 02-04-2007 02:20 AM

I don't know why not, as long as it's not copyrighted (aka ripped music) works

Pibe38 02-04-2007 03:28 AM

Well it's up to Mike, but I think it's better to use the attachment method for ringtones since those are, usually, smaller files.

Wideawake 02-04-2007 06:00 AM

yeap what pibe said ;) no sense in putting them on the ftp when u can attach them.

colonel 02-04-2007 03:57 PM

Is there a way to restrict privaledges for users of the ftp? Basically, somone just accidentally deleted all the files in my section. Perhaps putting certain passwords on certain sections.

Wideawake 02-04-2007 03:59 PM

I will have to look into it. I can't believe its already being messed with.

colonel 02-04-2007 04:07 PM

It was accidental, but still reveals a potential problem

saridnour 02-04-2007 05:42 PM

YEah you can;t hit the files without logging in with the upload creds. Would think a read only account or even let annonymous apply ot read only..

as I can see it the only way to post a link is the full path with user info:
ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....r_AKU_3.3x.zip

if annonymous it should read:
ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Apache/saridnour/sar_AKU_3.3x.zip

an they would not have r/r/d access unless they dug around. just my 2 cents :)

I just deleted this file from the FTP site, please, do not upload it again.

Also, keep an eye on other directories so that we don't have some apps twice. Apps that work on more than 1 device, like GoogleMaps, should go on the Applications folder, not the 700w/wx folder.

I see what you mean, but it would make it a lot easier to download a large collection of ringtones if they're all in a folder, instead of having to click and download each individual ringtone from attachments. Just a thought :)

Pibe38 02-08-2007 04:11 PM

Well I don't know that every users is going to download all the ringtones... I don't know.

jamesus 02-08-2007 07:00 PM

Hate to be the first to report this (from ChronoT52 on pdaphonehome), but in the Apache section, there is a .rar file called WM6 how to or something like that. It isn't a how to at all, but rather a video of 2 ladies, and it definitely does not have anything to do with a ppc. Mike...you might want to remove it.

Wideawake 02-08-2007 07:04 PM

mf first whatsa file called wm6 on the ftp for little less the p00n issue. and is there a link to my ftp @ pdaphonehome in a thread? let me know.
thanks,
mike

colonel 02-08-2007 07:11 PM

There is a link in my signature there.

Wideawake 02-08-2007 07:18 PM

yea with password removed? that's cool....

dannzeman 02-12-2007 11:09 PM

ok i must be completely retarded because I can't access the ftp. i've clicking on the links using firefox, i've used IE7 with no luck and I've tried FlashFXP and can't do it either. With every other ftp I had to enter a Port number in FlashFXP, but you dont need one here? How are all you accessing it?

Wideawake 02-13-2007 12:22 AM

All working fine for me. In firefox and pie. Dunno what's happening ur way and oh if ur clicking the text in posts that say ftp that's not gonna work click this one ;) ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks.com
~Mike

Pibe38 02-13-2007 12:23 AM

I just use IE7, Windows Explorer and SmartFTP.

ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/

User: ppcgeeks
Password: ezupload

dannzeman 02-13-2007 01:24 AM

Alright, I'm this close to giving up. I've tried CoreFTP and SmartFTP in addition to the other stuff I mentioned above and I still can't connect. In Firefox when I click on a link to the ftp site it acts like its loading but nothing happens. In IE7 it says the page cant be displayed. Are you changing the port number to anything inparticular? The default in all the ftp programs are 21. Could someone walk me through in detail how to connect using FlashFXP, CoreFTP, or SmartFTP? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Pibe38 02-13-2007 01:29 AM

There was nothing special to it with SmartFTP, I just put the address, user name, and password and I was in.

I think you may have a firewall blocking your ports maybe???

I don't think the firewall is the issue because I'm able to access other ftp sites as well. Can someone tell me what port number you are using in the ftp software?

Pibe38 02-13-2007 01:50 AM

My SmartFTP is using 21, I just noticed when I logged in.

dannzeman 02-13-2007 02:13 AM

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll just keep trying and searching on the web for stuff. Thanks for all the help guys.
