Is there a "best" ROM for GPS?

I'm going to drive from Tucson to Denver in a few days, and I'd like the GPS to be working perfectly. Some days it works nicely, other days it is crystal clear in the sky and I get that "Weak GPS" error message anyway. Is there a way to "tweak" the GPS somehow? If not, is there a ROM that somehow enhances the GPS? Anyone have some advice here? I tend to use Google Maps or amAzeGPS, and I've experimented with both Windows-managed settings and the COM8/57600 baud option, with mixed results.

No, there isn't, or at least there shouldn't be. GPS is in the radio, and every ROM out there either uses the CC20 or CF03 radio. Keep in mind just because you can see straight up in the sky, that doesn't mean that there isn't any type of interference...and the earth is spinning.

Fair enough. Is there a way to tweak settings to make it more sensitive or something?

it depends on the gps chip thats in the phone itself. your best bet is to find a good gps software.

Yeah, have a couple different options installed just in case. I would for sure have google maps on there, at least it will get somewhat close to where you are even if you can't get a lock.

Re: Is there a "best" ROM for GPS?

download and install GPSgate, have it auto start with the phone and have it find your gps chip in the settings, leave the phone somewhere you can get a GPS signal, wait the standard time to get a cold lock. you'll see the progrom will go from yellow to green. If its green your good, you'd probably never loose a lock till you reset your phone, it does a good job of remembering the sat info and where they are so when the omnia is in a weak area it'll still work fine, if you want a good nav program download igo8 its great and works really well. I get signal locks in every place I would expect to now using GPSgate.
