I just bought the SCHI910ZKV from verizon. Letting the battery charge up now. Once up and running what are some of the first things I should do? Like backup rom and load Custom Rom? If so what is the newest Rom I should load? Load s/w for telthering? S/W for new menu so looks like iphone or what is better. Seen winterface it looks cool. People that already have this phone tell me what s/w I should play around with? Thanks!!!

Play around with it first, get a feel for the stock version and then once you're up for it, flash it to one of the latest roms that Adryn, Bgill, or wolf has.

i agree with jville play around with the phone for a while then flash to the leaked rom for gps then maybe a cooked rom after that

As far as a replacement interface, I would say Manilla 2D (also called TouchFlo 2d), SPB Mobile Shell 3 (NOT free though) or the new WM 6.5 interface called "Titanium". I believe there are ROMS with each of those three for you to try out in the "Upgrades" subforum.

read a lot, ask questions, but play with the stock rom for a while first. you need to get a feel for what you use and don't use on a daily basis. i found most of the crap on the device i could get along without just fine. my current build is fast, stable, and fun.
i can race an iphone to the google and win.
and then to add insult to injury i show 'em my task manager, which is running 5-6 different things

can i just install cc20 to get gps? and if I only install cc20 will it leave all apps still on phone? Right now thinking of installing cc20, sbp shell 3, sbp pocket plus 4, sbp backup, and resco explorer.

CC20 is a total revamp, but most stock apps are included in the flash. The flash will rewrite the entire phone and pda. It won't touch your µSD card.

As was mentioned, do some research.

The CC20 will leave pretty much everything that was there before, the keyboard is different, the widgets are better, GPS is unlocked, as well as some other things i can't remember. I've flashed so many times, the original setup is out of my memory. I don't think Verizon would recognize it!
