Verizon's Leaked ROM GPS qeustion.

I just loaded the leaked Verizon rom w/ GPS unlocked and have a few GPS questions.

I can't get Windows Live Search to locate me. Figured with GPS unlocked this should work. What Com # should I choose with third-party software that uses the Omnia integrated GPS?

I just want some verification that the GPS is working and I can't seem to get Google Maps or Live Search to find the GPS.

Thanks in advance.

Locate me does not seem to work with our device. Not sure if that will be fixed later or not.

GPS does work. Try changing the settings in Google maps to Com:8 Baud:57600.

Re: Verizon's Leaked ROM GPS qeustion.

First make sure that you turn location on from 911 only. Second, set com to 8 and baud to 56000. third, search for a program called sic GPStoday. It's a program that let's you turn on the GPS from the today scree. I have Google maps, Windoes Live, IGO 8 and TomTom 7 loaded and they all work great. good luck.

For the record you do not have to have GPSToday installed for GPS to work.

As said above make sure you're GPS is set to "Location On" then start Google Maps and make sure "Use GPS" is on. then just leave your phone alone for 10 min touching the screen every 2 min to check it, and eventually it will work. It takes forever the first time. And make sure your phone is either outside or near a window.

Thanks you two for the help. I was able to get Google maps to see at least 5 sat and track me as I drove to work. Cool

With Windows Live Search it only allows me to selt the com port but not the baud. Will this matter? Basically any third party GPS app I will set it to Com 8 and baud to 56000?

Thanks in advance

Re: Verizon's Leaked ROM GPS qeustion.

I like Live Search way better than google maps. It loads GPS faster for me too. Within a minute. To get the GPS working you go to maps and menu "track me with gps" also in the "change location" you can pick find by gps. "my location" doesn't work. For a real kick, do a route with starting point "my location" it will give you turn by turn and it beeps about 150ft before turn and beeps again at the turn (exactly).
What I like about this vs. 3d map on a garmin for instance, is the birds eye view of your location. It's exact.
I like Live Search better because of the voice commands while driving.

I'm trying to unlock/set my GPS now. I have 'Amaze' installed but what are some other good ones(that don't cost)?
Where do I go to set the com & baud rate?

Re: Verizon's Leaked ROM GPS qeustion.

I think you have already heard the main three free ones with Amaze, GoogleMaps and Live. With those three, your pretty well covered. As for the GPS settings, I haven't set any of my apps to certain GPS settings, I let the device do it, of course I have GPSGate running as well, and that automatically detects the settings, and runs in the background keeping GPS locked.

I let the device set my settings too. I installed GoogleMaps and im pretty much satisfied with that. I wish it had voice capabilties though, that would be pretty awesome.
