Cooking Like An Htc

Hello...
From any threads that I've read about cooking your own omnia rom, it seems like you need to extract and rebuild files, manually, dragging into other programs. Plus, I've read about having to remove stuff from multiple text files. That seems like quite an undertaking when it's just click-click-click for htc.
Is there not a graphical program, like ppckitchen's buildos for omnia cooking? I've made multiple custom roms for htc phones, but manual is a new world for me.
Also, I'm guessing we don't have the ability to update files, like with ppckitchen's buildos.

Define ability to update files?

While its true the kitchen is not user friendly, I see no reason why its not perfectly viable.

Ppckitchen's buildos has an update program that allows you to download new builds of windows, as well as oems, drivers, etc...
It would make it a lot easier than finding a .bin and extracting it.
I was also wondering about non-verizon networks. Ppckitchen has a dropdown for different networks, but I haven't read anything about identifying which network the build is for. Is that not available and we just have to run dcd's carrier .cab?

Re: Cooking Like An Htc

Well that sounds nice, but I bet I know more about cooking than the average ppck user then. Learning how to do it manually teaches you a lot about how the rom works, and makes it easier to fix things when they go awry. Relying on scripts alone makes for a weak chef. IMO, learn how to do it manually, then use something easy. Your users will appreciate it when you are able to fix their issues.

At any rate, we don't have access to an official rom, so the only portion we can access is the pda.bin. That said, I've always made OEMs for the carrier dcds, but in this case, the point is moot because the roms are incompatible between i900/910, and even amongst the different i910s.

I would, definitely, agree that knowing the manual process teaches you a lot more. I plan on playing around with some manual stuff as soon a smy omnia arrives (today?). Hopefully, an official update will come out so things can get more streamlined. I really think ppckitchen works well and it would be cool to be able to cook for multiple phones in the same program.

Re: Cooking Like An Htc

How will I know what rom to go with? Or where can I get some valuable info on roms?
(I keep hearing/reading/seeing "Adrynalyne's rom" all over this place. Even came across a poll where a lot of people chose that over something else)

Re: Cooking Like An Htc

As long as you have the beta rom already flashed, reading the rom threads are your best source of info, next to trying them.
