Newb rom flashing question

Hey all,
Sorry to be a total newb on this one, but if I flash the Rom to one of the WinMo 6.5 romsets, will I lose all of the information currently stored on the device? My instincts tell me yes, but someone might know a way to back it up.

Number two, will I lose any functionality? Particularly I am worried about Wireless Sync e-mail. Has anyone tried one of the cooked roms with Wireless Sync? Thanks so much, appriciate everyone help!

UMDL will do a hard reset after flashing; you will lose all installs. Even if you back up, it's not a good idea to restore to previously installed apps. Most back up programs will detect a different ROM and (if you allow it) attempt to back up anyway. At any rate I prefer to freshly install all apps and register changes.

I have seen no reports of ActiveSync failing to work correctly after flashing, but someone else might chime in. I have seen no reports re: VZW Wireless Sync. You will lose VZNavigator via the GPS unlock.

Re: Newb rom flashing question

wouldn't mind losing VZNavigator, but have to have Wireless Sync. Hopefully someone else who uses it will respond, that's the only thing holding me up, since I use my phone for work. Do we know if Verizon is going to release a software upgrade at some point for us Omnia users?

Promises, promises. First rumors of an update were first half 09, then Q2 09. Latest I saw was Q3 09.

Don't hold your breath.

Re: Newb rom flashing question

So the cooked roms have no adverse effect on the the functionality of apps?
What about the things that are taken out in the various roms? I'm very new to this and I have lots of questions. I will search before I post tho.

Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Newb rom flashing question

Just be careful and aware that even if you follow directions very closely there is a chance you can brick your Omnia. I've flashed my old u740 and a TouchPro many times with much success, but the Omnia I have bricked completely on flashing. Irrecoverably dead phone. Most people have not had trouble, but I'm not alone in having been very careful with the update process and still ending up killing my Omnia. (This is an i910 on Vz).

Re: Newb rom flashing question

Well I was new to this whole flashing idea and once I got the hang of it, I've been "hooked" ever since(which has been for 3 days now). I have flashed from WM 6.1 to the cc20, then to Adryn's 2.7, 2.8, and now I'm fairly stable on 2.9!

Bottom line, listen to the geekers on here, follow directs step by step, take a deep breath and FLASH AWAY!!

Same here, I gave it a shot and I've been hooked as well. It really is a matter of following the directions, making sure you're on a stable computer, and re-reading the directions again so you don't frak anything up. I need to up to the latest version, am running the 2.7 roms now, but I'm waiting for the RTM build to be finished. Wireless Sync works fine, and I've only had a few minor issues. It really is Bleeding-edge tech, but it's pretty cool. I'm glad I went through with it, and everyone here is so cool, they'll help you if you run into problems.
