Re: GPS not initializing
I had the same problem on 2 occasions both after hard resets. I dont know why this has workded for me but GPS lock is almost instant. Maybe something for our friends to look at.
1. I have VZNavigator for 30 day trial. Just connect with VZNavigator Let it find you, and when you are located exit out and then my GPS Tracks Sats. and then google maps and MS Live search works and also Terracrosser works great after installing .net Frame Work 3.5. 2. After I Installed .net Frame Work 3.5 is one of the times that I had to reinstall VZNavigator and let it connect 1 time before I could get GPS to track Sats. I hope some of the Guys and Gals that know a lot more about this stuff will maybe take a look and see if VZNavigator might have some Codeing in it that could maybe be added to Omnia 910 to help GPS Turn on and Track Sats. With less Trouble.. I Understand if you are under trees or near objects it could cause lags in finding Sats., But this using VZNavigator as a primer to get Omnia Working with GPS might have some Merit... I hope this helps ! |
Re: GPS not initializing
I have found that i have to "enable" the windows gps settings, to get gps to work.
You can do this by editing the registry. Go to HKLM -> ControlPanel -> GPS Settings, and delete the key “Redirect” and power on and off the omnia. After this for me, gps works with "Let windows Manage GPS" I use a program called Basic GPS, and it has a button in the gps settings tab that will enable windows gps settings as well. Best, Chris |

I think it's other apps than the GPS radio that suck current. GMaps for instance is constantly downloading data. The GPS radio is receive only; GMaps is transmit/receive. If you are in a fringe area for reception your battery will get depleted fairly quickly. Ted |

Re: GPS not initializing
I Am using CC20 Cooked ROM ...VZNavigator will work fine! I dont know yet if you will be charged for its use cause I still have a few days left on my 30 day Trial period....
Since I first posted I am not sure if VZNavigator was the thing. I am almost to think it is as simple as just make sure the phone is actually turned on, I was trying to find Sats with phone turned off in the Manager... It is quiet often I turn it off, we are in a fringe area with little cell service and rather than run battery down searching for cells I turn phone off and save power.. I will keep looking at this that phone must be active before GPS will Work correctly.... I Dont Know For Sure |
