Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
2 Attachment(s)
I have seen this requested in the past, so I thought I would pass it along:
How to: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910 **** If you have installed any other ICS files before you will need to do a hard reset. **** Use the files I have attached. 1. Download/Install the attached "ICSInstall.CAB" file. (You may not need to do 2 - 6 but this is how I got it to work.) 2. Restart your phone. 3. Test the install by Connecting the USB cable to your computer. 4. Then run "IntShrUI" from the Programs Menu and select "Connect". 5. If done correctly the program should display "Connected". 6. Now select "Disconnect" and disconnect the USB cable. 7. Download/Install the attached "WMWifiRouter91.CAB" file. 8. Restart your phone. 9. Turn on Wifi. 10. Run WMWifiRouter from the Programs Menu. 11. Select "Connect" 12. If done correctly the program should display "Connected to WMWifiRouter Ready". 13. From your computer search for the "WMWifiRouter" wireless connection. 14. Now have fun surfing the web from anywhere. *You may need to restart your phone and repeat steps 10 - 14 a few times to get it to work. Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Thanks much! This should come in handy when I am out of town on business.

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
And by doing this verizon will not charge you extra if I have the unlimited data plan. Just curious.. New VW customer
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
I have heard there is some cap on their 'unlimited' data, 5GB maybe? I think it would take a lot to get there though. Occasional use shouldn't be an issue.
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Programs work flawlessly thanks for the info and I have heard the same thing about the 5gb cap. Crazy. Why would you call it unlimited when there is a limit
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Because you can browse the net and use email unlimited.
Under those two circumstances, you could NEVER hit that cap. Its when you start using it for other things, like downloading, P2P, tethering, etc. that it changes. Verizon is protecting itself, by limiting those activities in another manner--by introducing a cap. Its kind of like an all you can eat buffet. Sure, its unlimited, but they are gonna stop ya when you start bringing in boxes, wheelbarrows, barrels, and moving trucks to take some home with ya. |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
They will not cut you off at 5GB. Just throttle you way down. Back to dial-up speed for the rest of the month. Reminds me of DirecPC back in the last century.
It hasn't happened to me (yet) but is the story going around at HOFO. Ted |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
hi so i think i botched the install of the first cab , cant via usb any more . cant use ActiveSync anymore tried just uninstalling and it says it could not uninstall completely any idea how to fix this

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Please tell me you use a backup app!!! If you did, the easiest thing to do is to do a hard reset and do a restore from your last safe point. If not, you can use explorer to find any files/folders associated with the app and delete them manually. If that doesn't do it, reg editing may be in order, and for that someone who is currently using this may have to look up the reg changes for you and maybe be nice enough to help you!!

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
How do we remove the WMWifiRouter from the Omnia?
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
What backup app do you recommend?
Also is there a speed difference between bluetooth tethering and the wifi link? Thanks. |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
leland_jr...doesn't the app show in the remove app screen? I would think you should be able to remove it through there.

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Thanks. Using SPB. Haven't put anything on yet... Just wondering how this compares to bluetooth tethering. New to WM... Been using bluetooth on my enV previously and was fine w/ that. Is that not possible using WM?

Hope his team won!

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
His team did win (don't remember who it was, I just saw the article on engadget)
Is there any way to put a password on the wifi signal? I haven't tried linking 2 computers up to my phone's signal but I assume it could work and if so, I really would like to encrypt the signal so that I don't have random people leaching my internet. |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
i dont want to share the internet by wifi, i just want to do it by the cable, is there a way of doing this?

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Hey SyrGuy...
Maybe a sticky for this ICS thread is in order...??? |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Quite honestly, I didn't realize this thread was that popular, I'll run it by our trusty med team and see what they say about 'stickying' this thread!! :-)

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
I'll give it a shot, see what they say. (knowing them though, a couple are already reading this LOL!!!)

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
All you need is ICS to teather by cable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new WMWifiRouter no longer has to have ICS preinstalled on the device. The new version (atleast what I'm using, V1.35) allows for more types of connections (3G to USB, WiFI, or BT as well as WiFI to USB and USB to Wifi). I love this program :D It also allows you to add passwords and security and stuff for wireless connections

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
when i installed the ICSinstall.cab and reset phone, then i navigated to /windows and found the exe ran it, connected it told me i had new connection on my vista pc, but when i tested internet it didnt work, i ran ipconfig and release and kept getting 169 ip any ideas how to get this working on my i910?
thanks |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
What ROM are you running? Is your data open so it can transfer to PC? Have you tried uninstalling, soft reset, and reinstalling?
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
im running the unlocked unofical vzw gps rom. and yes i can sync so data is open.

Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910

I agree; this should be stickied! |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Guys once you have connected the USB and run the ICS program and connect on that. How do you connect via the PC ? cos when i just click IE or Firefox or something i get page cannot be displayed. and when i run IPCONFIG i get a 169 IP meaning no internet. Any help?
|
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
Contagous...
all the Ipconfig and release stuff ur doing isn't necessary...how do u normally connect ur computer to the internet... via wifi or by Ethernet cable...? if by Wifi, try turning it off.... then go to start/programs/IntShrUI open this program and click connect make sure where it says - PC connection it reads - USB Network Connection reads - Broadband access if its working properly the status should say connected....it should work under those settings... the other thing u need to check, are u able to surf the web on ur Omnia thru Opera or PIE...? if not u have a different problem... |
Re: Get Wifi Tethering working on the Verizon Omnia I910
normally wifi and yes i switch it off, and then the program on phone says connect broadband access and seems to work, but then when i run something like Internet Explorer on my laptop and try to run a website it just comes up page cannot be displayer no internet connection found. Im on vista, and i was just running the ipconfig tools to see if its online.
