Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
I would argue some more. My buddy got a xv6900 and didn't get a data plan. The rep told him that most reps think it is required but it actually isn't. He had to be SUPER careful and not use any data though. He eventually went with the $29 unlimited data plan.

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
It seems like verizon doesnt really care what there customers think. Force data plan then make phones less able to use it buy junking them down.Been with them for over ten years and am getting very tired of the way they do business. I totally understand how you feel.

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
They have always tried to force data plans with any of the PPC and BBs. This is nothing new. However, they do not have to be accepted and certainly not the $45 plan. If you want one then I would suggest the $30 plan as it is virtually the same. I understand where they try to make more money and at the same time "protect" ppl with PPCs and BBs from accumulating high accidental data charges.

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
Yeah...the forced data plan was started about a month-or-so ago, and it is for all new PPCs/smartphones released since the Saga. I understand people being upset about it, but for most of us, we already had a data plan, and BBs always needed one, so I don't see this as all THAT bad (although I think they could offer more choices/options). The part that gets me is while paying for unlimmited data, they also get you for VVM, VZNav, texting....... basically nickle + diming everything else!!

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
I don't think it's limited to Verizon either. I believe Sprint forces you to get a data plan on Smartphones/PDA's now too. I think it became a requirement for them once they rolled out their Simply Everything Plans.

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
Yes, most providers are going this route, I think the ones that aren't will soon!! But the flip-side is that if they are selling more plans than ever....the prices may go down more....you never know!!!!

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
I agree...with all providers doing a similar thing, it could hopefully lead to some price wars on unlimited plans. Nothing wrong with that kind of competition, because when my SERO contract runs out I doubt they'll renew it and I'll be in the market for a good plan.

Re: Verizon forcing data plan on Omnia
I associate it to high speed online (I use RoadRunner)....when it forst came out, it was (if I recall correctly) anywhere up to $100 per month. when they introduced the all-in-one packages, by the time you factor cable _ phone out your paying around $30 a month, and currently I think the newest incarnation is a $15 a month version of it (obviously not the same as the full plan, but still....) so basically I think eventually plans will go down in cost, and new ones will be offered.....eventually!!
