Re: Noob needing some direction...

formatting worked. Card is now recognized but spb shell can no longer load as a critical component is missing....
How could something have gotten on that card when omnia wouldn't even recognize it? I guess I have to re-install spb shell.....wonder if I'll lose all the settings I've worked thru already. *@#%^&%

Re: Noob needing some direction...

You should be able to safely reinstall and not lose your settings, however, if you are worried about it, there's a trick to backing up and restoring your settings, but it involves the registry so not sure if you would want to try it or not. If you do, what you have to do is backup the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Widgets\" portion of the registry using some registry editor. Then, after you reinstall (and if you've lost everything), simply restore that file you created with the registry editor and it should all be back.

Re: Noob needing some direction...

I'm not confident enough to to do that yet but spb seems to have come back. I formatted the card using the omnia thinking that might be important and it seems to have brought spb back. I have no idea how/why that happened...

Whoops, sorry about the mistakes. That's what I get for posting when I'm only half awake!
The disconnect button is not on the signal strength meter, it's on the data icon (to the left). Here's a picture:

You will see that come up when you tap the icon to the left of the signal meter.
The CABs will definitely be attached to this post. Installing either one will cause the data to disconnect after one or five minutes of inactivity. Note that the data is only inactive when there is no data being transferred, so this won't reduce your data usage. There is an application called NoData at modaco that will allow you to actually disable your data connection if you desire. I've never used it but I'm pretty sure it works with the Omnia.

I don't get that screen. My screen looks the same except the panel that says "Broadband access------connected" As well as the box that says "disconnect" is not on my screen.

Thanks. I don't know if I need these if the wifi will always supersede the evdo connection. I'll install one anyway.
I have a couple of other issues that I'll post in a separate post.

I got the same screen now. I had to go intothe setting tab then "connections" and "manage existing connections" to connect it. Then the same menu box came up.

Re: Noob needing some direction...

Here's the other issues I have at the moment...

I dial *86 and I get to my voicemail as expected. However speed dial is set so if I dial 1 it is supposed to dial *86 but instead I go to some Spanish language recording that last about 2 secs and then hangs up. The first words are Por favor (please) but I can't get any of the others.
Any idea what that's all about?

Also, when I'm on a call...let's say I call voicemail...while I'm listening to the voice telling me to put in my password the keypad locks and up pops a message box: "press the action key to unlock the touch keys" This box pops up before the rec even finishes saying "please enter your password" when I hit the action key the box disappears but the keypad locks again in about 1.5 secs if I'm not using it. This is a real pita when I'm needing to enter several menu choices thru a phone call. I can find no setting to stop the keypad from locking up.

Thanks for the help. Bedtime for me now...

Yes, *86 is listed as the voicemail #

Yes! yes! yes! I hadn't found the "touch dialer lock" setting before! Thank you! (This was driving me crazy)

Re: Noob needing some direction...

I think I solved the voice mail issue. I've never seen a phone before where to speed dial you didn't just press the number, then press talk. On this phone you need to press the number and hold it down til it beeps a second time. There's nothing about this in the manual.
I still don't know what the Spanish recording is.
