Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Samsung and Verizon has kept us all waiting for too long already. We have read on different realiable sources that the release date was due months ago but it's always delayed. I read some article I forgot the source, but the realese might be on novenber 1st but it's not solid. What does this mean; that samsung is trying to make us wait for longer time?Well I feel like Omnia 2 is is becoming OLD. I mean new phone and with similar or even better features might be released maybe before omnia 2 releases. I know dell is coming with a new phone thast has even larger screen and similar features..SO what do you think. Omnia 2 is becomning a thing of the past? what do you think PPCGEEKS community??

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Yes, it most certainly is losing the hype. I've gotten so frustrated waiting for some news of it that I've turned to looking at other phones, like the Droid...With other newer phones coming out soon based on better processors I think that unless it is released really soon it's not going to offer much in comparison.

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I am content with my Omnia (special thanks to BW for this), just waiting on the holiday market timed releases and will make a choice. I travel to Asia and own a GSM phone with Vodaphone's service for this since CDMA is not all that useful in many places and VZW hasn't been renewing all roaming agreements there lately. If the Omnia II turns out to be with GSM & CDMA I will jump for it otherwise will likely take the path of using Omnia I until a global phone (Imagio maybe) gets me.

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Windows Mobile Is loosing its Hype. they have years of making, and catching up to do. and it seems that they are always behind. WM6.5 is about 3 years behind.

ive got more important concerns than to get all bent up over a phone release. yeah it would be nice but suppose they had released it. then the Storm2 is right behind it.vthen the Droid is right behind that. THE next big thing only lasts till THE next best thing comes out |

I still think that it's going to be awesome. Sure it's 200MHz less than the Droid, but it's gonna be the fastest WinMo device to date (In america, not sure what the rest of the world has, we're always behind). Plus they fixed the 2 main gripes that I have, 3.5mm headphone slot and micro USB! Those alone are reasons to be excited! Just my 2 (or maybe 1) cents. I'm sure it'll have winmo 6.5 soon enough, and whoever gets it can play with Sammys Touchwiz for a while or some other UI until then.

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I tried out the Imagio at a Verizon store and I was blown away my the 480x800 resolution and the screen's responsiveness. It blows the Omnia out of the water. We know the Omnia II's screen is fantastic and the same res, and if the screen sensitivity is just as good as the Omagio then the Omnia II will be absolutely amazing. Even though more recently I've been caught up in all the Droid hype, the Omnia II is still going to be a very strong option for me.
EDIT: Also, I don't know what you mean about "it's 200MHz less than the Droid", but the Omnia II is actually 800Mhz and the Droid is 550Mhz. That being said, the Omnia II is based on the older ARM11 CPU and the Droid is based on the ARM Cortex v8 (same as the iPhone and Pre), which from what I read is like 40% faster clock-for-clock than the older ARM11. So in the end they should perform similarly. At least that's my understanding of it all... |
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Well my next phone isn't going to be a smartphone, however I was playing with the THC Imagio in the store the other day...pretty slick. The touchflo UI is nice and smooth. Only thing I didn't like was the 75%+ memory usage all the time.

mine and the OPs point exactly. if it was released already it would be obsolete, by comparison, soon and as its held up ,by the time its released it will be in a distant 3rd for being THE hottest Verizon phone :) |

this is true. its always something new. but what many take into consideration is the OS. in the 3 you mentioned, their all different. wm, google os, and RIM. all good phones but again, which os do you like best...? |
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I for one am losing my excitement about the Omnia 2, I am now more excited about the HTC HD2 but i wonder who will carry it in the US and how long I have to wait for it.

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I will drop dead from amazement if the HD2 comes to VZW. Maybe TMobile will get it but not VZW. After all we did not get the HD when it came out.
The Omnia II is still one of the top new devices on the market. It has an 800 MHz CPU which is only beaten by the HD2 and maybe the Droid processor since it is based on a new core. Most everything else is coming in the 528 MHz area. The other nice thing no one has is the AMOLED screen. Pretty much no device has this. There will always be new and better devices in the pipeline. The question will always be which one is the best for you right now. |

i wanted to dive into the world of smartphones with the O2 since rumor had it by Aug end the O1 would be gone and replaced by the O2. i had my eye on thr O1 since its pre release but went cheap and got a Dare. when my annual upgrade came about, the O1 was $50 for me and still available i jumped on it thinking it would be gone soon lol. the Dare and O1 are the perfect size for my face, hand, thumbs, pocket, weight but this Omnia is soooo much more than a touch phone with a cool camera. i write this just to reiterate what blaxinwolf stated; its a personal thing. my Dare met my needs but this phone has helped me grow in techno ability and i use the microsoft office apps much more now than i did on my desktop. i have a bad couple of discs in my back that make sitting in a chair very painful so i use the phone then sync if needed |

They have for years? There havent been pda phones for that long. And three years behind. Behind what. I dont get that. It was a business phone first. Another thing is If verizon does get the iphone i probably wont get it. I like to tinker around with my phone and you cant with that phone. It is what it is. The only phone that catches my eye right now is the htc passion or the hd2 with android and the omnia 2. I really dont like the fact that the hd2 has almost no built in storage. |
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Help bring me up to speed please--The Omnia II's AMOLED technology uses much less juice, right? From the specs, Omnia II's battery life will be double any of the other smartphones. Anyone know if this is correct? If so, that's a real strong argument for Omnia II.

The ultimate comparison has to be made with Real-world tests of speed, battery life and functionality. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait till some of these phones hit the streets over the next few weeks (months?) |
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
honestly, for me, it's not the Omnia 2 itself. its Samsung. I have found the tech people to be unknowledgeable about the Omnia, no one knows release dates or when firmware is getting pushed and I usally know more about the phone when I call in than they do. then, lets add in in their lag in an adequate app store and hearing about all these great phones overseas - with support and updates - and we're here yelling "hey, over here!"
I am not impressed with how Verizon has slowed the pace of information on the 2 down to a halt or the unknowing techs on their end either. If it were not for Bgill/Evidence, Blazingwolf, Sector and people who help add their tips and tricks to forums like this I would have not only got rid of the Omnia (which I love now), but Verizon as well. Verizon and Samsung have lost a customer. As soon as there is a discount off of the HTC HD2 I AM GONE. Their site is nice, their is a whole mod site dedicated to that brand and...they are ALWAYS rolling out differnt builds and updates. This just my 2 cents. |

im stuck on Verizon. GSM just aint gonna happen where i live and work,Sprint is iffy at best and Altell has been assimilated by Verizon. before this phone ,being a phone was 99% of what i needed a phone for but with my bikedashboard app, pocket Esword app, MSoffice, and full email capability that has dropped well below 99% but is still a must. its my personal home phone having 4 teens |

I read too. I have worked with and on WM devices for almost 10 years (before there was anything called Windows Mobile). I have a small idea of what I am talking about. ;) The fact that the contacts info is shown in some videos and screen shots means absolutely nothing. So far there is no concrete information that says the HD2 will be coming to Verizon. If anything, history shows that it will not. Also, go back and read my comment again. I said nothing about you having contacts. |

That said. the fact that he dont know all caps means yelling i would asume he dont know that much about windows mobile at all. Blazingwolf might not know everything but he sure knows a lot and if you have spacific research that you have done pleas post the link so you dont get perceived like a total goober(censored) and we all can learn whats right and wrong because thats what a forum is for. |

I wonder if the delay has anything to do with all this Android stuff. Will Samsung release the Omnia2 as a part of Verizon's Droid market?

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I have been waiting on the O2 as well. I have the O1 now and I absolutely love it. To me its the best WM phone I have used to date. I have not even taken the stylus out of the box. That is a plus all in itself. The battery life to me is awesome compared to my other HTC devices. I also like the TouchWiz UI. I do have to agree with another poster that WM is loosing its hoopla. I myself will not buy another HTC device. I hate the TouchFlo. I also don't like the Sense UI they are putting on the Android devices either. I do know that I will be getting the Droid tomorrow and I can't wait. I had a hands on experience with one last night and I must say I fell in love.:drunken:
I was so trying to wait on the O2 but I'm jumping ship. I think HTC has totally turned me off of WM for a while. |
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
i been waiting and waiting and to be honest im tired of it. i been checkin out the TP 2, Storm 2 and they seem to get my attention. The Driod as well. either way I can upgrade my phone right now(10 months) for pretty cheap(Storm 2 only 179) so im really looking into that. I also seen the HTC Imagio as well. so i dunno. i will try and wait it out
|
Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
I tried out the Storm 2 today and I was very impressed. It's soooooooo much quicker and responsive than the Storm 1, it's night and day. And the new screen is very nice. I also tried out the Imagio, which I wasn't expecting much from, and I really liked it. It's honestly the most sensitive resistive screen that I've used yet, and the high res screen looked fantastic! All that said, tomorrow I'm going to be in line for the Droid...:D I figure that I'll give it a whirl for the 30 day trial period, and if it is better than my Omnia then I'll keep it. Otherwise I'll return it and wait for the Omnia 2...

Re: Do you think omnia 2 is losing its hype??
Looks like its dropping for Bell this month
Bell and Telus are both making quick work of forgetting their legacy CDMA networks and bringing gobs of sexy, high-profile devices to their new HSPA digs -- presumably in an effort to get folks switched over as quickly as possible and steal Rogers customers posthaste -- and the latest is Samsung's Omnia II, which will be coming to Bell in GSM form (despite the fact that Verizon is bringing a CDMA version to market). Featuring a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 5 megapixel cam, WinMo 6.5, and 16GB of storage on board, the phone definitely rests at or near the top of the current WinMo crop -- but the real news here is the fact that the phone has just been selected as the Official Mobile Device of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which we suppose means you can use it with pride while bobsledding, lugeing, curling, slaloming, or whatever other arctic sports you enjoy. Pricing hasn't been announced, but the phone will be available this month; let's just hope that Olympic endorsement doesn't drive up the MSRP, eh? |
