Yes he does point back to this thread
I think his intent was to use this thread to help people use the Sprint Utility to flash their phones and not necessarily root their phones, I don't really know what the intent was for on this 2.1 ROM

With that said though, let's see if I can try to help you...
when you type su, do you get an error?

First off...Thank you very much.

I'm using ConnectBot > local > gave my connection a name > type 'su'
and get 'su: not found'

I downloaded the UpdateSprintStock2.1D033.zip and installed through recovery (apply from zip) and connectbot still gives me 'su: not found'

You didn't read the instructions clearly. http://www.sdx-developers.com/index....a&topic=1458.0

Download - Version 5
joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v5.zip
Installation instructions remain the same and are listed below.

Installation of Root - joeykrim Recovery 2.1.3 - Apply update.zip Method
Load the joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root.zip onto the sdcard. Use either mount to /sdcard and adb push or mount to USB and copy from host computer.
Details for ADB:
Double check sdcard is mounted. Sdcard Options -> Mount to /sdcard
adb push c:\android\joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v5.zip /sdcard/
Select Apply Update .zip from Menu
Select joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v5.zip
Apply and Reboot

Here are the exact instructions I followed.
http://www.samsungmomentforum.com/ro...2822/#msg12822

scroll down to you see this.

Rooted leaked version of 2.1::

Once you flash the above version (SPH-M900_MR2_DD03_REL-joeykrim-recovery-2.1.3.tar), you can apply the root achieved by joeykrim and his SDX crew.

Download his root here:

http://www.sdx-developers.com/index....a=view;down=97

Once you download the file, copy it to your sdcard. Once the file is on sdcard, go into recovery mode (volume down + talk + end) and apply it via the update zip tool and that should give you root.

Might want to check to see if you're set to HOME ONLY or AUTOMATIC
Settings>Wireless Control>Mobile Networks>System Select

Set it to HOME ONLY

This made no difference. Might just have something to do with where I live. Or just general weirdness, phones seems way more stable today with staying in EVDO.

tried everything on the first page, and I still can't get my phone rooted. Everytime I connect the USB cable the second time, It takes me to the start upgrade now screen and sits there on setup connection. I've uninstalled and reinstalled usb drivers many times and restarted my computer over and over with no luck. Looks Like I'll have to wait until the official 2.1 update comes out and try this crap again.

I'm glad that this has worked for many, and I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere (I've been a winmo user for 10 yrs), but this stuff is completely new to me and seems so much more complicated than winmo.

When it gets stuck, leave the Updater where it's at, unplug the USB from the computer for about three seconds and then plug it back in, this should make it start.
Being a WinMo user for 10 years won't prevent you from following directions, at least it shouldn't  ha ha

Ok I'll try that. Before I do that though, could you tell me which USB drivers I should have installed in order to get this to work? I uninstalled all Samsung USB drivers and then just installed the drivers inside the samsung update utility. After connecting the phone and having it recognized, it keeps looking for more drivers. So I installed the ones from one of the other threads.

I just have a feeling it's a driver issue.

The drivers I posted in the stickies are the correct drivers
Make sure you uninstall all drivers by using your add/remove programs first
