Seems the reason is because the AMOLED and the touch part of the phone are two different components...

well I'll be! Good POST! What gets me though is that I've broke digitizers numerous times and the touch function is GONE nearly completely. Mine is not gone at all period and its shattered I can even touch on the shattered parts. Wonder if there is a cover on top of the digitizer?
