Re: I'm Here! Gave Up My TP2 for A Moment

I have a TP and use the phone as modem and my wife has a Palm Pro which she has WMWIFI for using the phone as a wifi, so having this capability is very important for us. Will the moment be able to do this?

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

it can with pdanet but its slow. windows app is WAY FASTER for some reason. i had a moment and traded it for a tp2. great phone and loved the features just it didnt support gif files for txt messages while i get a lot of. and the battery life wasnt up to par. i know androld 2.1 is coming for it and wutth that it should support it but i got tired of waiting for sprint to do it to the moment. when they have 2.1 and good battery tp2 is gone and im going back to the moment.

short answer: Yes

long answer: the ones that I know of you'll have to root your phone. I don't require this feature so I haven't looked into it much.

Re: I'm Here! Gave Up My TP2 for A Moment

I went back to the Hero, Android is a lot better than windows mobile but samsung missed up with the moment bc they change the file system and is way to hard to work with the phone, android is suppose to be a open source but samsung locked the phone. Yeap is fast but with a lot of problems!!
If I have to choose between moment and tp2, I go with tp2, I went with the hero bc is cheaper and is real android.

I have never had my Moment lockup or freeze like WinMo did, even with the best custom ROM from these forums.

I have used WinMo exclusively for well over five years. I've had a 6700, Palm treo, Touch, Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and probably a few others through the years. And none of them have been as good as the Moment that I have now. I don't know, it's just something that you have to try, so that you can see for yourself.

My Sprint TP2 works great out of the box. The only "tweak" i did, was install a custom UI. Battery life is great, I soft reset it maybe once a week... everything working fine. I dunno where you got yours from, but obviously you aint doin it right.

The only tweak you did was change the UI, that's a pretty big tweak I'd say. I'm not saying the TP2 wasn't a good device that has great potential, I'm just saying I enjoy my Samsung Moment more OOBE than I did my TP2. Yes I've installed a multitude of free apps which were easy to find using Android Market, I still like it better than the TP2.

As far as battery life goes, yes the TP2 does have better battery life, don't forget the TP2 has a 2 identifying it as the second generation of the Touch Pros, so that means that (hopefully) HTC corrected some issues they experienced with the first TP although they did take away the flash for the camera which I never understood... can't wait to see the Samsung Moment II!!!

I don't understand why camera flash is such a big issue with people. Anybody I know that is constantly taking pictures ususally has an actual digital camera with them (in their car, or purse if they're female). As far as the UI, i said "tweak" in quotations because it's not really a tweak. A tweak is something that somehow alters the performance. My UI change is purely for aesthetics. I do the same thing on my Windows Machine, messengers and stuff. Make it more personal. It doesn't really effect the performance of my device, as it just is a "mask" of touch flo 3d. If anything, it should have "hampered" the performance... which it has not.

The post I was quoting was stating that he had to tweak it numerous ways to get it to work properly, to which I said that mine works perfect out of the box. Which it has.

*Shrug* One of the guys I worked with bought his Samsung Moment about a week before I bought my TP2... he started slamming his head against the wall when I showed him my TP2.

Camera flash is nice to have because you can use it as a really bright flash light, if it's not such a big deal, then why didn't they just keep it on the TP2? I have no idea, I'm not here to argue with you, you like your TP2 better and that's that

When someone says to me they tweaked something, I'm thinking they configured something differently than what is out the box to make it either perform better or to their liking, so when you said tweak your UI that's what I took it as. I didn't realize you were trying to tell me that you just customized your UI, that's all it really was, customization... well to me anyway

We can agree to disagree that doesn't mean I don't like you. I'm speaking from the point of view of owning both phones and they really are both great phones... I just choose the Samsung Moment over the TP2, now if Android can be finally ported to the TP2 and run natively I might have to reconsider

I assure you that I am "doin it right" and I am not just talking about my cell phones. My TP2 was a good phone, don't get me wrong. But OTB it did not stand up to the Moment, period. Here are some comparisons for you to better understand, though you seem to be a lot like I was three months ago and unwilling to ever believe that anything other than another WinMo phone could even compare:

The Moment does not lag when switching between the Android home screens and is 100% "finger friendly." The TP2 does lag when switching between screens in stock Manila and without Manila WinMo is not "finger friendly." On my Moment I don't have to worry about memory leaks and task managers. The same cannot be said for WinMo, especially the stock roms. The Moment doesn't wake up randomly and turn the screen on like the TP2. Google Voice is integrated with Android, and therefore the Moment. WinMo has... well... aspirations for a good integration, eventually.

I have used WinMo phones for almost five years and have always preferred them over anything else. iPhone? I would rather be shot, stabbed, run over by a truck and then doused in gasoline and burned to death, only to be revived and have it all happen again. BlackBerry? Re-read the iPhone answer and add to it public testicle flogging with a Louisville Slugger dipped in tar and covered with broken razor blades and roofing nails. Android? Yeah, it just works right out of the box.

You have your opinion and I have mine, and I am OK with that. I am also OK with being the only person with the right opinion.
