data won't work, kinda

for some reason, i can't check my gmail, sync my gmail contacts, use google maps or browse the web via internet explorer. but i can browse the web via opera, so i obviously still have a data connection, but it won't work like it's supposed to. this just happened. everything was working fine yesterday. any ideas on a fix?
