Had Q, have Q9C, thinking about getting Intrepid

Hey all!

I *loved* my Moto Q. Main reason was the full keyboard and ability to type one-handed (no, I don't happen to have 6 fingers on my right hand). I didn't use it to watch TV or movies, but it is nice to distract the kids occasionally. I didn't play games on it (again, once in a while for the kids). I use it mostly for email and internet browsing (PIE, Opera, and Skyfire). And some Facebook.

I only upgraded to the Q9C because I thought it had wi-fi and would allow me to tether to my new iPod Touch. As most of you know, it didn't, so it won't. I really like the GPS feature (which was a total surprise), and I like WM 6.1. I do NOT like the fact that the GMail applet no longer works. I *love* the ability to get true "Push" email for free.

I am thinking about getting an Intrepid. Mostly for the purpose of tethering to my iPod Touch.

It would seem that upgrading to the Intrepid won't LOSE me anything and will I will GAIN:

  • WiFi
  • Better camera (1.3 -> 3.2 MP)
  • Sprint Navigation (will be free; have to pay w/ Q9C?)
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 (stuck at 6.1 now?)
  • 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7600 processor (vs. Intel XScale PXA272 312 MHz in the Q9C)
So, to sum up:

1) Is the above bullet list correct?
2) I would consider a Blackberry if:
a) it would beat the Intrepid
b) I could keep my push email w/out paying the $10 BIS fee (I'm SERO)
3) My *ideal* phone would be a Windows Mobile/Android dual-boot (like the Touch Pro 2), but with a front-facing keyboard, and that I'd be "allowed" to use on my SERO plan. Does anyone think that such a beast will be on the market... ever? (I don't)

Thanks for reading this long rant.

Re: Had Q, have Q9C, thinking about getting Intrepid

I love my Intrepid, the camera is great for a PDA, the GPS is assisted so it locks on fast, but it does still work if you do not have coverage, that would not do you any good with sprint nav, I have Garmin so it works for me.
Also this is the first WinMo device that I have had that actually will play movies.
I am not sure you would have Sprint navigation free with the SERO plan, you may want to check on that.
Anyway I like mine.

I went from the Q9c to the Intrepid and cannot imagine going back. The Intrepid is 5x the phone the Q9c was/is.

Re: Had Q, have Q9C, thinking about getting Intrepid

I have never had a Q9c, but I do like my Intrepid, this is the first PDA that I have had to turn the volume DOWN on, it is loud and clear, and it seams to be pretty fast, and not nearly so many resets as my Palm devices, or my Touch, it just seams to work.

IT is much easier to send text msgs on the Moto Q9C IT takes me multiple extra steps to test on the intrepid. I personally like the Motorola better

Re: Had Q, have Q9C, thinking about getting Intrepid

On 6.1 I just started typing a rep name and as soon as i enter a letter it started pulling up names. I select a name and type message...Sent.

Intrepid i chose messaging ot text. I have to go to menu and select new. I then have to tap add reciepients.i then have to chose form Phone book, Call log, Group or enter manually. I then get to type the name in where it finds matches. I chose the person and then have to chose which number I wan to send message to. At that point I can compose and send the message. It is much more work than the Moto Q9C

Don't know about your Intrepid but if I start typing a name on mine it brings up a list, then as I type it narrows it down even more, I select the person hit enter, hit text and start typing the text message, seams quite fast to me.

This. It works very similar on both phones.

Re: Had Q, have Q9C, thinking about getting Intrepid

I went straight from a Q to the Intrepid. It's definitely an upgrade and works as a BB-type phone. I do get texting errors frequently in the Intrepid, where it states it can't send the message and asks for a retry. Annoying.

I missed the jog wheel until I caught the hang of using my thumb to "roll" messages up.
