Video player wont play audio higher than 2 channel

while playing some mp4 video, i dont get sound. ive looked in to the properties of thevideos, and see the only difference in audio is channels. there is no problem playing 2 channel (stereo), but most of my videos are 6 channel or better. are number of channels directly related to sound quality? i know on a surround sound system each channel goes to its own speaker, and i know the epic doesnt have 6 speakers, but i would think it would default to 2 channel in this case.

im no audio expert, so can someone please explain this to me? if there is no way to hear them, is there any way to reduce the audio to 2 channel without loosing audio quality?

What player are you using? I successfully played some mp4 videos with 5 channels last night.

Hmm, I was streaming a video from my computer to my phone using gmote. I know the audio was 5 channel and it actually displayed in the corner it was 5 channel. Maybe it's a limitation in the player? I've never tried the stock player to be honest.

The stock player doesn't play more then 2 channel audio unless you have headsets that support that..through speakers it won't work..

thanks guys. gonna hit the market for this. im still left wondering if this is a hardware limitation or an android issue...

Its just a software limitation...the software can output 5.1 audio and etc if the hardware accepts it..such as plugging in headphones with 5.1 and etc...otherwise the software needs to convert the audio to stereo on the fly which it does not...hence the issue.
