at&t lock vs unlocked

ok I am stuck in a pickle. I have att and am using 3 time the amount of data than Verizon with my note 2. So I am moving back to verizon, the problem is I just spent 299 with att. I want to sell the note 2 on ebay, but they seem to be only buying "unlocked" phones. so a unlock note 2 is going for 600, and a locked at&t note 2 is worthless ( 0.00). but what I don't understand is I can buy an unlock code for 7 dollars. So why does no one want the locked at&t note2, if it can be unlocked for 7 freaking dollars?

Any help would be awesome

Re: at&t lock vs unlocked

I don't understand why you bought both a verizon and an att note 2... the verizon's is unlocked out of the box and can be used on att....

but that said, unlocked codes don't always work, and why do it yourself if you are paying a premium for it?

Re: at&t lock vs unlocked

Unlocking phones is illegal, so if you bought the locked at&t note 2 and will try to unlock it during the contract, you'll have consequences. Another question, as EyeB says, is that unlocking can also be with consequences for the device's performance...
