Re: Your opinions on the Epic Touch 4G

Pros:
Gorgeous Screen - Way nicer than any phone I have ever had (EVO, Evo 3d, etc...)
Nice hardware - Thin, light, feels good in my hand even if it feels a bit slippery.
Crazy fast - No lags, boots in seconds, loads programs insanely fast
Camera - This camera is pretty awesome. It focuses fast and takes really nice pictures (Im not a pro photog but they look good to me) video is nice for a phone too.
Software - Touch wiz isnt nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. TW Launcher is not that great but thats what ADW is for right?

Cons:
Radio(s) seems to suck - I loose radio randomly sometimes multiple times a day. I reboot fixes it but I am considering trying another Epic just to see if i have a lemon. I also have spotty wifi reception with my phone.

I dont know if sammy can push out something to fix this as it seems like others are having some similar problems.

I know i can fix it but Samsung not having a way to silence the shutter on the camera is lame.

There are some kinks to be worked out but overall I think the phone is amazing.

radio you can fix manually and wifi hotspot is now free with hack but its 3g only for now and my wifi and signal are fine so maybe its your area and camera "shutter sound" has been fixed and its posted on xda.

I find it totally awesome that I can swap the battery from the Epic and into the Epic touch while the 1800 mah battery charges in my old Epic. Priceless!!!

I feel the browser needs more work to it, if you double tap a page to see text better it takes about 5 secs for it to work on my phone, watching videos straight from the browser is painful, if you double tap on page to see video better the whole video stops and you have to refresh the page, anyone experiencing this, and also everything is on mobile view, how do I disable that, it's not in the settings, besides that.... It's great!!!

Interesting cause the engadget video didn't show any slow downs in the browser when zooming in, you sure it's not the page your loading?

To change UA string to make it look like your browsing from PC, u should be able to do this....

1. Go to Browser.
2. In URL box type about:debug (no http:// just that) hit enter.
3. Menu/More/Settings
4. Scroll to UA String and change to Desktop then back out.

Hope this helps!
~Mike

Do tell about the manual fix because I have tried almost everything to get my phone tonot lock out of 3G and drain my battery at night. My Wifi connection turns off all the time and so does 3G. Anything new Ill try, just want this phone to work.

How does this help anyone else who wants to do it? Why don't you make a thread explaining how to do it, that would be more beneficial to everyone. Just sayin...

it will and you will never miss kb but i highly recommend using new swype on there website and not swype thats pre loaded.

@darren hey to install the beta version of swype first you have to uninstall the one that comes preloaded but HOW?
already tried going into settings>applications>manage> swype - but no uninstall option . Any help? TIA

Also when you lock the screen with a password the keyboard that is there to input the password for unlocking looks pretty nice, yes pretty simple but nice anyway i can use that one instead for everything else instead of just unlocking?

I think you need to be rooted in order to uninstall Swype.

root explorer will do it, system/apps/make sure mountR/W is set then delete away. root toolbox may also work and its free.

Re: Your opinions on the Epic Touch 4G

I have had this phone for a couple of days and I love it. I just got done rooting it and after much searching, finally found the wireless tether app that I used on my Evo 4G. The only thing is, it doesn't seem to be working properly. My laptop recognizes the signal, but can not gain access to the internet. This is very frustrating seeing as how I use my laptop out in the field for work and this was my only means of accessing the internet. Does anyone happen to know why this might be happening or what I might be able to do to fix it? Keep in mind that I am still a novice when it comes to most of this stuff.

It might be that your laptop cannot connect to an adhoc wifi connection that most wireless tether apps use. Or, the tether app has an access restriction function that you need to set to grant access to the laptop. I'm assuming you have Sprint service?

If you are rooted, there is a hacked hotspot app over at xda that is infrastructure and for sure your laptop will connect to. Be sure to get the proper version for your ROM.

The thing is, I have used this very app before with my Evo as recently as last week. I am assuming that it has something to do with the phone rather than the laptop. I searched around a link to that app at xda, but couldn't locate it quickly. Does anyone here have a link that I can use?

Yes, I have tried both the regular version and the beta 3.0 version. The beta 3.0 version had some strange effects on my phone, so the first time I downloaded it, I ended up quickly uninstalling it shortly there after.
