also, in the wp-activate installation folder, you should find a "temp" folder. what's in it? |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
Hello, tried a couple of times, but the configuration script never gave me the screen
to choose black or white icons, just refresh rate. Ran from folder because from the panel, WP Activate-?, I couldn't find injection or configure but both files ran from Launch>Programs>WP Widget. It's working fine but would like to try other icons. Thanks |

When you run the WP-Activate configuration, does the first screen read "WeatherPanel Widget Configuration Step 1", like this: http://www.venusware.net/images/wpa/screen21.png |

Ok, I goofed. Downloaded from XDA. Downloaded from here, installed
and everything happened like magic. Much thanks for great work. Cheers |

If you prefer the default themes, another option is to change what happens when you tap the WP-Activate icon - such as have it go to the Today screen instead. There's instructions for doing that in the 4th post (I think)... |

I feeling a bit dense. That's a lie, feeling 3 miles thick. Anyways, when I click the widget icon on Lifestyle screen or WP-Activate, the Weather Panel opens in a new window. Is that the pop-up you refer to or are there some kind of JavaScript Ajax like interactive pop-ups available from these themes? If the latter, can you point me to some themes, lean ones if possible? Thank you for your time. |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)

Your best bet for themes and icons is the WeatherPanel Download Index. When you say "lean", I'm not sure if you mean space taken on the Today screen, or size on disk. One thing to note - all themes and icons can be installed to your storage card. If you want to save some room, WP is hard coded to look for a folder called WeatherPanel in the root directory of your SD card. This folder can have two sub-folders, Themes and Icons. This allows you to store all your themes and icon sets on your storage card saving a lot of room in main memory. |

< Weather Panel Widget SPB Mobile Shell 3 spb3 Lifestyles Screen Auto Update Widget cab install >
Sprint HTC 6800 Mogul Titan Windows Mobile 6.1 WM 6.1 I was thinking RAM. I still got 61MB free in system memory and have most of the apps I need, I think, except games. Probably put games on storage card unless performance becomes an issue which then your suggestion will go into effect. I can't say thanks enough for your help. |

< Weather Panel Widget SPB Mobile Shell 3 spb3 Lifestyles Screen Auto Update Widget cab install >
Sprint HTC 6800 Mogul Titan Windows Mobile 6.1 WM 6.1 Update 2009-06-25 : Installed Commuter theme, nice, re-ran WP Widget cab. It worked fine, but then when I clicked on the widget or WP-Activate a window saying something like retrieving weather panel or whatever then a ping sound and finally nothing, no new window with WP. In addition the widget was not updating. So I uninstalled the theme back to the original and wa-la, now when I click the widget or WP-Activate the weather panel, default theme, opens in a new window; ??? BUT, the widget still didn't update and I didn't touch anything while sleeping. :-D So on my way to work on the cable car this morning, I re-ran the widget cab again and chose Windows Queue for the update instead of silent script, and wa-la again, the widget update works. :-> So I'm still a bit confused on the 'necessity' of a custom theme for the widget running in spb3 because I get updates, from the WP in Today screen I believe, and when I click on the widget or WP - Activate the WP app out of the Today screen opens in a new window; good? Is something stuck in the registry from the first mis-install of the older version found on XDA? The cabs do say uninstalling older version when installing or re-installing. If the latter is not the correct case then after I install a theme do I have to regedit the widget link as in post 3? Additionally, how do you set links to traffic cams for the selected city, SF in my case, in the various themes or should I say pass on the link to the tutorials. I did read the zipped readme file. Finally, are there other icons available for the widget to use? I saw that there's icons for the themes. As far as I can tell, this widget is working just fine. :-) Thanks again. |

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
Well, the Weather Panel is working again for me so I re-installed spb mobile shell 3
weather widget that auto updates to the lifestyle's screen. Life is good again. I can't believe how much this little phone and these apps make life more enjoyable. To my thinking this WP fiasco and the development that was triggered to rectify the situation, and PPCGeeks in general, has shown me true collaborative software development realized and not just vaporware and media propaganda. I think I may try to get in on the WP development for the PPC phones to learn some new tricks and maybe eventually have add-ons to this or another app with features I mentioned in previous posts. It's really to bad that the Sprint Mogul / Titan doesn't have a bit more RAM so I could forgo getting that Touch Pro2 when it's available and wait for a WM7 phone that is what the TP2 should have been. Although I haven't tested the thing, and am venting here, I feel this is a legitimate thread because my thinking is that this widget and the parent app will be installed on my eventual TP2; unless they have some app I don't know about. |

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
storyr,
I recently updated to a 6.5 ROM so I've dropped MS3 for the time being. I don't want to abandon WeatherPanel by using the default 6.5 "Titanium" today screen. Could your approach be "modified" to allow WeatherPanel to be launched from a Titanium plugin/panel? Just thought I'd throw it out there. Either way, thanks for all your efforts. |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
I'm having some trouble with the celcius to fahrenheit thing, my today screen shows fahrenheit, while my spb3 widget shows celcius, anyone else have this problem

Wow this is way more accurate than spb weather, which has been saying rain 4 like 3 days without a cloud in sight |

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
this might sound weird... but can we make an icon set that is ONLY text, maybe with an opaque (white or black) background?
I like some of the weather plus widgets (their graphics at least) that come with mr skips widget pack, and I just want to cover up the temp from that widget with our wonderful widget here :-) Cover up the rest of the plus widget with invisible app buttons pointing to wpactivate and viola! a pretty sweet wp icon :-) The other thing I want to figure out other than that would be if there is a trick to make the SPB weather (included in mobile shell) update more often but I don't know if you can or not? Thanks for any help you have guys. I am new to this community here but read a lot over on xda-developers. Hope to be a decent part of this community too :-) |

What I want in the end is a very large WP icon set (maybe like half screen) that can look somewhat like TF3D weather. I assumed it would be harder to make that sort of thing, so I thought that putting a diff weather widget on there (weather plus - manila, from mrskips widget pack) and then covering it up might be an easier task. Maybe I will look into making icons myself, but I am very busy so if anyone else wants to undertake this they can lol. If not, I'll get to it sometime maybe. Thanks for the quick response, and obviously most of all for this entire app and whatnot everyone! |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
is this spb mobileshell some type of trialware?

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
Storyr - I was messing around with a MS3 utility I found on xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=3062) and the developer of that widget set has quite a few different weather widgets. Granted, they all link to the built-in MS weather app, but I wonder how difficult it would be to make the WP widget do the same. In other words, would we be able to embed the entire WP display as a whole-page widget into one of the MS panels? That would be AMAZING because it would essentially turn one of the panels into a true "Weather Panel."
I am running into a bit of an issue with the spacing on the WP widget and the available space on one of the utility's clock widgets. How hard is it to adjust the spacing on the WP Pro widget to make it fit another layout? |

Also, I was wondering if the future of WP might include different weather widgets, much like the ones in the MS app. I would be awesome if we could have a full screen WP widget more like some of the weather widgets in the MS app. |

Hacking the link widget was the only way I could get Mobile Shell to update the text (current temp., for example) without having to exit and restart Mobile Shell. The link widget supports a single icon, with a maximum size of 64x64, and centered text. That's it... |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
I have done a lot of reading on several forums leading up to this one with WP, Phat Phinger II and WP Activate v2. I followed every step and have injected the widget on my Lifestyle screen. I am using Blazzing Wolf's MS3.01 ROM Night on an Omnia.
My problem is that when I activate the widget is quickly says its loading Weatherpanel and then nothing happens. I have it running on my today screen (looks crammed in with Default-Mini layout unless I rotate to landscape). I have soft reset several times and still no change. any help is appreciated. |

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
I have Phat Phinger installed and the icon on my Lifestyle Page is good and up to date with current weather. What is not working is the link between the icon and the program that works on my Today Screen. When I push the icon, it briefly says loading Weatherpanel but nothing happens. Would the WQVGA cause this problem? I would not think likely but I am still a newbie on a hell of a learning curve.
Thanks for your time. OK Got is working finally. Had to reinstall and reinject the whole deal. It may have had to do with the fact that I did not pick the Phat icons first before injecting into MS3. I kept picking the default icons even though I picked the Phat theme. Thanks for your work on this. |

Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
You are correct in your assumption. The link does die and I just need to go to the Today Menu open and close it and then its fine. I realize this program was for VGA and you have bent it to work on WQVGA.
When I open the program from MS3 it is too big for the screen besides the first page. None of the other pages show the correct size. I have seen images on your pages that do show correct sizing. Is this only on VGA screens or is there a different layout I need to get them to shrink down on WQGA? |
Re: [Mobile Shell 3.0 Widget] WeatherPanel (with current conditions)
I posted this on BW Night forum since it became a topic of discussion by me. Maybe it can help some others with MS3
I finally got weatherpanel to work with MS3 yesterday. It was not easy and took two installs to get it going. You have to follow a careful progression of installing 3 programs to get it going in MS3. Soft reset after each one. There is a lot to read on this. Here is a quick overview to see if maybe it helps. 1. Install Weatherpanel 2009.cab on device 2. Install Phat Phinger II into Weatherpanel Themes file, copy file into Themes file, that's it. Nothing to run. 3. Get Weatherpanel setup on your today screen and configured with a city and set Theme to Phat Phinger and Layout to Phat+48.wpl. It has to be running on Today Screen. 4. Make sure it is working there first. 5. Install WP Activate on Device 6. Run Inject App successfully, I believe this connects the program running on your today screen with the app you will put in MS3 7. Add Weatherpanel App to MS3 Lifestyle Page, there should be several to chose from. 8. You should have it working. Press the widget to make sure it loads the Weatherpanel. Mine did not the first time so I had to start again. I believe the steps above were different than my first attempt that failed. 9. If you find, like I did, that the link stops working. Go back to Today Screen, update the Weather and then go back into MS3 and it should be working again. Good Luck! |
