This info. is pretty much known already..... Some People are upgrading because of the screen size & keyboard...

I know that it's known, however some folks do not know why it is not the best upgrade.
So I posted the site for them to see why.

Exactly.. This is pretty much the reason for upgrading. A better looking device that works slightly better than the TP is worth the $300 or so plus new contract signing

To each his own. I already knew all of this information and have decided that I will most likely upgrade. Sure they could've done more, and I dont know why they didn't but the small upgrades are sufficient for me. I especially like:

-screen size
-improved screen response to touch
-improved build quality
-tilting screen
-improved keyboard.

These are reason enough for me to switch. That's just me though.

That screen is to sexy to pass up..... The last pda I own with a screen close to this size was my 6600 & I've been missing it since..

Re: New Touch Pro 2 not worth upgrade, must read!

I only paid $1.05 for my Touch Pro back in March and The $100 rebate, so I got it for free. I gave Sprint back my problem Mogul which was purchased for negative $700 with all the free service and credits I got because the service in Myrtle Beach sucked!
I am waiting for a new windows mobile 7 phone with a 1 ghz snapdragon cpu and 512 ram and the larger oled screen. So I'm hanging on to my Touch Pro until then because if I upgraded everytime a new device came out, I would end up buying a new Phone every 6 months.

I think its worth it in the fact that they might do a free upgrade when the touchpro's run out of stock.... Just like I upgraded from mogul to t-pro :)

Yea big screens wasn't the "in" thing back in the day but going from a 3.5 to a 2.8 wasn't a easy transition, lol.

thanks for the info but like many others I will be staying with the TP. By the way, a fellow co-work bought the Palm Pre... Nice interface but very very slow

Compromising performance for looks... A pretty big no-no in my book, so like it states, I'm passing this POS up and saving my money for the next big option.

I've missed mine too until I got the TP, but I still miss the screen size. The 6700 and mogul were terrible replacements, complete downgrades in performance--why on earth did they go from 128mb ram to 64 on those--64mb isn't even enough for WM to run properly.

Why does everybody down talk the performance of the touch pro? I think the performance is just fine. They made some physical changes to make the device more enjoyable. Why fix it if it isn't broken. Especially with windows 6.5 coming along. It takes up even less space. I gurantee you when you see the touch pro 2 sporting and offcial 6.5 rom all of you will just be wowed.

Re: New Touch Pro 2 not worth upgrade, must read!

The author of the article is obviously a just a Pre fanboy. If he says that the TP2 is a POS and it's slightly better than the TP, then he must think TP stands for Toiletpaper......I'm content for now with my TP because of sites like this and custom roms (Thanks Scott). I'll just wait til my TP gets another nuetron ring problem and get verizon to upgrade me to the TP2. IMHO the TP2 is what the TP should have been all along.

I can see how it is a questionable upgrade from TP, but for folks upgrading from 6800, do you think it is worth it? I definitely do... especially since my 6800 is on the fritz and currently has the functionality of a paperweight.

Perhaps you can explain how the performance has been compromised... I see the same specs on both devices with the exception of the different chip sets. Which, from my understanding, the 7200a chip is supposed to have better video playback and recording than 7201a.

Yes, even though I've never had a 6800, I'm sure the TP2 will be better than a non-working 6800.

Personally, I'm keeping my TP.
I'm ok with the screen and the KB of the TP, I don't care that much about the improved mic and speakerphone (they work fine as is), and I would miss the D-pad.

I think it's a pretty weak "upgrade". Of course, that's just my opinion.

It's said to be slower according to what I read, but besides that, it's also the same specs, and since alot of us have had a taste of TF3D2, it wouldn't really be compelling without upgrading the guts within the device... Which is why I ain't gonna budge and keep my TP1 until something better comes along. Only thing that it was supposed to come with is GSM mode besides also being CDMA, but it looks like it'll be far less compelling than I could imagine.

Re: New Touch Pro 2 not worth upgrade, must read!

I didnt read every comment, but one other thing to note is that the speaker phone on the TP2 will be much improved.

Tilting screen - check
3.6 " scnree - check
larger keyboard - check
Improved speakerphone - check

Almost every complaint about it is solved.

Ram is not an issue with TP1. Sure, it could use a boost to CPU speeds and internal ROM space, but hardly a deal breaker.

MikeElGiga23 06-11-2009 08:35 PM

Re: New Touch Pro 2 not worth upgrade, must read!

1- TP1 lagged in performance cuz the CPU could barely handle the VGA screen, i cant imagine how it would perform on WVGA with older CPU and less RAM ..... :angry7:

2- pple complain on battery life on TP only to upgrade to a device with WORST hahaha

3- everybody says that apple brainwashes pple with a ****ty product andy et pple still want to buy this cuz they are mainly seduced by the screen... good work HTC

Im gonna open a "I Told You So" thread the minute the Rhodium section is opened =D>

+1 for 8820, umma wait 2:mrgreen: KB and bigger screen arent good nuff, phuk dat. A combo of a good battery performance and a a 512MB RAM will be an incentive, other than that , HTC and Sprint can forget it ....

I'm gonna hold true to what blasphemous and mr8820 state. I'm gonna go ahead and wait for the next rendition. WiMax soon to be available, WinMo7 may need different hardware specs. Bigger screen is sexy, I like the new keyboard size, just not enough for me to upgrade. Now, if my phone takes a puke (knock on wood, only 1 replacement so far) and they give me a TP2 then I had no choice but to upsell 1 of my buddies for 1 of theirs (TP1) and cash! LOL. We'll see what happens.

they sure got us with the touch pro, didn't they lol! not even a year old and it's already being replaced! now, just watch how many tp2 people complain when the next "new" thing come out. i'm rocking this baby til sprint MAKES me upgrade!

Re: New Touch Pro 2 not worth upgrade, must read!

Don't forget the bigger screen (more pixels to draw) will require more processing / graphics power in which the Touch Pro 2 does NOT have. In other words, expect more lag / sluggishness.
