Couple quick questions.

I have a sprint touch right now, and I'm debating switching to a diamond, or maybe dropping sprint all together and getting something completely different. My room mate just made an insurance claim on his mogul and since they were out of moguls they gave him a touch pro.

My touch has some serious cosmetic flaws and other problems, I just dont want another touch. Here are my concerns...

with the sero plan,

can the diamond tether to my computer?

how much better is the diamond on battery life?

and more importantly, will reception be any better with the diamond.
(im moving to florida soon, and I couldnt have a 5 minute conversation in palm beach without losing signal)

Overalll is the diamond that much better than the touch/ or ever compared to the touch pro?

Thanks in advance.

I moved from the Touch to the Diamond around Thanksgiving, and have never looked back. I had used the Touch for a year, and it was good for it's time, but the Diamond is much newer technology. Since you are in the "upgrade" section, I assume that you would put a custom rom on the Diamond, which will make a world of difference from the stock Sprint offering. It's the radio that is primarily responsible for the quality of reception. I have found that the Telus radio was an improvement for me in signal strength and runs cooler than stock.

I think the other question you asked, was about battery strength. This really depends on individual usage, and will vary greatly. We ask these devices to do so much, that they will never be stalwarts in the battery department, but I find them entirely adequate. The last thing I will mention.....the VGA screen on the Diamond is absolutely amazing, and worth the upgrade alone. Hope this helps....good luck.

Re: Couple quick questions.

I personally hated that i'd left cingular a year ago when I got the samsung instinct or somethign like that.. I had dropped calls all the time or error 97 which they never figured out. Anyway since getting the Diamond wiping it clean and installing mighty's AMAZING roms I havent looked back. I'm so happy with the diamond. I love making my i-phone loving friends jealous w the speed and smaller size of my phone.. I thought I wanted to pro but it was too big for my tastes I prefer smaller compact phones. So far reception and battery and all of that is great as long as you wipe off the factory rom- its crap

Re: Couple quick questions.

The Diamond came out before the Touch & they have basically the same hardware. The Pro has double the memory though. Not sure what the carriers did to the phones.

False. Lol. The Diamond came out AFTER the touch, and has VGA res as compared to only qvga res on the Touch.

I went from touch to HD, and my brother went from touch to diamond.

I can say from my standpoint (concerning things that are the same with HD and sprint diamond) that:
  • Screen res is AWESOME.
  • Don't expect any increases in speed (regardless of reg tweaks, latest clean roms, etc etc)
  • Scrolling and such is MUCH better / smoother and aesthetically appealing.
  • Screen is more sensitive (though still nothing like an iPhone or Dell Axim X5 (4.5 yrs old).
  • No camera button so that sucks (just plain stupidity on htc's part).
  • Just FYI, when you flash a diamond the internal storage does stay intact, so that is nice, but I have been around my brother many times when he has been wishing for an sd slot / removable memory.
  • He has noticed a large decrease in battery (which is a problem widely mentioned on ppcgeeks and the like, also reported to grow very hot which I haven't heard from him), with and without custom roms, always been on the stock radio.
  • One big thing (at least for him and I): The edges of the screen are much much less responsive. I have heard that this may be due to the fact that the bezel around the edge is thinner, but for whatever the reason this can be very annoying. Requires pushing harder anywhere on the edges (which includes the exit button and start menu, very very annoying). This is present on the cdma diamond, cdma pro, as well as the HD (gsm).
  • As for tethering...it is "possible" on any data plan. But sprint will nail you for it if they find out you are doing it and it's not enabled on your plan.
    Solution
: "Hack Internet Sharing to work: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] Delete Extension key, set/create MaxCMCon=0 (decimal). [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings] Set ForceCellConnection="Sprint" -- Cabified Version Here"
Hope that helps good luck!
