6800 vs Touch Pro vs Touch Diamond?

I have a 6800 with Alltel and have gone through about 7 of them through refurbs or in store replacements. Recently on my 6800 I got a white spot and was going to have them send me a new phone.

What I want to know is if I can get them to give me a different phone which way should I go?

The 6800's ram sucks, and I'm tired of only being able to have 1 program running at a time without bogging down my system..

Which is the best way to go here? Touch Pro or the Diamond? I see they both have the qwerty keyboard. But what are some of the drawbacks of the two?

Re: 6800 vs Touch Pro vs Touch Diamond?

Completely different devices. Basically the same interface but different hardware. If you need a hardware keyboard or need more than 4 GB of storage for music, etc, then get the Pro. If size matters most, get the Diamond as it is thinner without the keyboard. Main differences listed below with links to HTC Wiki pages for each device. For me the Pro was an easy choice but lots of people really like the Diamond.

Diamond-no hardware keyboard, no storage card, 4 GB internal storage

Pro-slide out QWERTY keyboard, micro SD slot, 288 MB RAM

Yeah the keyboard is necessary... How fast does your Pro run? For me the 6800 only has 32mb of ram, so if you run Opera it can sometimes lag...

No comparison. I had a Mogul before the Pro. Same problems you're finding. Even with good memory management, it was chunky and slow. With the Pro, no issues at all. I can have multiple apps open and it still runs smoothly.

Yeah... The more and more I read online the more interested I become in the Touch Pro. It appears that the two are the same, just size (Keyboard). Is there an on-screen keyboard with the Pro that is finger friendly?

There's a few that are finger friendly...actually the ones you prob. use with your mogul.

Re: 6800 vs Touch Pro vs Touch Diamond?

I use TouchPal just fine. As far as these phones go, there is some misinformation I will clear up:
1) The Mogul has 64MB of RAM not 32, but still isn't enough.
2) The Diamond and Pro are the same hardware.
3) The Diamond has no SD slot, flash on the camera, or hardware keyboard, but other then that has everything else the Pro does.
4) The only difference is worse battery life.

so i'm using dcd rom and t2flow....but i get that 25mb ram on start up but easily drops to 15-18. y does the phone eat up the rest of the ram? what is the bare minimum to get that 32 ram?

I'm not sure... I have flashed my mogul several times and always end up with about the same in available rom. I use a tool called oxios to free up ram from time to time, otherwise I have to soft reset at least once per day. IMO the Mogul is an awesome phone. The only drawback and it's huge is the amount of available ram. I don't know what they were thinking... Especially since the 6800 came out after the i-phone.

Re: 6800 vs Touch Pro vs Touch Diamond?

Yeah.... After looking over the specs of the Diamond vs. the Pro - The Pro wins. Now I just have to see if Alltel will get me out of the 6800 and into a Pro.
