Moving from Mogul to TP
Just wanted to touch the forum for final advice. I have been using the Mogul for a while and with all of your help have it working great. It is getting beat up and the talk button doesn't work--so it's time to look at making a change. My local Sprint store still has a new mogul in stock but also has HTC Touch Pro as well.
Is the TP all that and do you think it is worth upgrading to or should I stay with the Mogul. I've read that there are problems with it --heat and battery etc. |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
tp... i came from a mogul... no comparison
|
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
love my pro. bought an extra battery and love it more now.

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
Best upgrade yet, the free ram alone is worth it. One thing I have noticed when upgrading to the TP is if you are transferring over any pictures from older sources to the TP the album program can get hung up on the album.cache file in every folder that had pictures in it. I did a search for every one and deleted them all, then let the TP album program create its own new ones, has been working lag free ever since.

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
You won't even remember the name Mogul after the TP... I personally havent had bad batterylife due to using Juggalo's TP ROM... plus, i don't leave many programs running in task manager... i feel as long as you have a good rom, and don't leave tons of programs running on the RAM, you shouldn't have much a problem with the battery...
Definitely TRAIN your battery tho... let it die completely, charge it to the max, take the battery out, put it back in, charge it for another 30 mins or so, then let it drain completely again. Do this a few times and your battery will reach a MAX Capacity and you will be glad you did it! |

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I misses the Mogul "OK" button and thumwheel. Definately read the posts about the "go back" and home keys needing pressed in their top corners for their native functions or the left/ right "D pad" function they also are used for will drive you crazy. I ahd installed AE Button plus for an OK and "Today" buttons as I could not get predictable function from the Home and go back buttons until I found a post about those button pressing issues and the left/ right cursor function they also serve. I now dont need it. I like the # hey on the keyboard without having to hit "FN" fisrt to use. I did not like the work correction and went wit the tweek to take it back to the MOGUL style. It is a large leap. I have no idea how someone who has never had a PDA phone before gets to liking this one if they come from a RAZR or something. It takes some past expertise in Windows Mobile I think to grasp all of this phone. Also, battery s^cks as you by now know. I love it though. Have spent likely 10-15 hrs on this forum and XDA gathering the info to get it/ use it to where I do.

UPGRADE! You know you want to...
Well, you'll never have to worry about managing your memory again. |

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
almost everyone will say its the best ever etc etc.
i miss the many buttons on the titan, i also miss the rolly polly scroll wheel on the side. I don't miss the bevel or running out of memory for applications*. I like the touchyness of the TO, but sometimes i'd perfer buttons for softkeys. the keyboard is way better! There are also some really cool features. I'm torn between the two. Especially since i have the full seidio upgrade (case, battery and holster) and the TP doesn't have any of those yet. If you need a new phone, upgrade to it. If you can save your money, do that. The next device should be even crazier! The way I see it, i already spent the money, so there's no looking back! But, if i wasn't lazy i might take it back and just keep using my titan. you can't go wrong with either phone, but it really depends on what you need it for. |

I actually like the Titan KB better, I thing the sprint TP KB buttons are way too small & stiff. Seidio has batteries & case etc available now. ~John |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
i agree about the KB on the TP, BUT i do like that it's more of a "full keyboard" than the modified titan KB.
i know seidio has the case, but the super extended battery isn't available yet and! The case itself is like 30 bucks and the holster is another 30, way too expensive for what costs cents to make (the rubber case). The case for the titan is a hard rubbery case which is also cheap to make, but costs a little more than the silicone the tp case is made out of. As a matter of fact, you can get the TP case for lessthan 9 bucks shipped on ebay and elsewhere on the web. So it hurts to pay 20 bucks more lol But seidio IS the best (from my experience) |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I apologize for bringing up a month old topic, but what is the current feedback from former Mogul users who upgraded to the Touch Pro?
Are you still happier with the TP over the Mogul? Just curious. I may have a chance at doing an upgrade from my Sprint Mogul to the TP for $199 and a 2 year contract extension (only if they let me keep my sero plan :evil4:). I'm fishing for your comments  |

I have to say, the upgrade to the TP was incredible. You don't understand how nice it is to not worry about juggling programs for RAM. Also, the appearance of the TP is so much better. It has those little aesthetic details that make you love it so much! [I'm talking about little things like the smooth backlight transitions, the LED ring, the flush screen, the smooth interface, etc] |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I am very happy with my change from the Mogul to the Touch Pro. I prefer the keyboard, memroy, and user interface on the touch pro over the Mogul. The Mogul had some nice features like hardware keys but other than that I can't think of anything I really miss.
The only problem I have is that Touch Pro doesn't annouce incoming calls with Voice Command but I can dal by voice which is key. The transition was easy with the help of this forum who helped me make a few treeks to get the Touch Pro working better. |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
Thx for the replies guys. I'm at the point where I like how I have my mogul setup... it has all the major features I need (GPS, Wifi, EVDO Rev A, Physical KB) but it runs clunky (they all do).
I have 8 more months on my contract... I have the phone on the TEP plan ... I'm tempted to just wait it out, if this thing croaks, they may give me a TP in its place. I'm just trying to see the real benefits beyond a quicker interface. (Must be this economy that has me pinching pennies like I never have before) |

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
Battery life is nothing close to Mogul. Miss the scroll wheel, don’t like where the TP power button is. Best phone ever, worst battery ever.

That just answered some questions for me.... Thanks! |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I still miss some features of the Titan/Mogul.
I used the scroll wheel constantly & I really miss all the hardware keys (I loved having a dedicated internet & messaging button) I use AEbutton + in the TP & that helps some, but there simple aren't enough buttons there (& the home & back button don't take well to re-mapping) That being said, the almost unlimited free memory (as long as you don't buy the verizon version) would be awfully hard to give up & the screen resolution looks really nice (although I really wish it where a little bigger). There still is not perfect PC IMHO. I want a Windows PPC with a high res screen the size of the ipod screen.......... ~John |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I liked it so much I bought a second at Best buy for backup. I figured the extra battery, cables etc. was worth $75 so the backup phone for $125 was worth it.
I guess that says how long I plan to use the Touch Pro |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I jumped in on the Best Buy Touch Pro upgrade deals and frankly I never looked back. I loved the Mogul, but the RAM management got to me. Having a device that actually comes with device drivers for video and lots of extra ram is a definite plus. The camera with autofocus is another positive thing for me with regards to this phone.
Battery life does suck, but I use WMWifiRouter religiously so that pretty much kills the phone for me. I do plan on ordering an extra battery though since I'll have this phone for quite a while. |

Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I was looking forward to the TP as soon as it was announced. I recommend switching as soon as you can.
There are some things I miss from my time with the Titan but not enough to pass the TP up. I'm really just looking forward to the tweaking, updating, flashing, etc. that made having the Titan such a blast. |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
So I can get anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5 hours of phone conversation on my mogul right now (using the DCD 3.2.6 rom).
What are you guys seeing for talk time on your TP's? |
Re: Moving from Mogul to TP
I never measured the talk time, but it's not even close to the Titan/Mogul's I had.
I have four batteries (the original & three seidio 1500's), two USB cradles & a car charger for the TP & they all get used constantly. I do use the phone hard as I run a lot of Sling Mobile & mp3 music or ripped DVD movie playback + I use Sirius online, but I did the same thing with my Titan's. ~John |

Now that's with the stock battery. I see Seidio has an 1500 mAh extended battery that fits normally so I'm gonna try that out when it comes. |
