Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

Debating if i should call sprint..they said once the TP is out i can call for a free swap.
they already swapped my mogul for a diamond w/out contract extension and i got a $75 credit

but honestly, is the TP a better phone? is it worth the thickness? :)

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

i dunno but the new qwerty on-screen keyboard on the TP (i think the diamond prolly has it too) is great and I find myself using it more than the hard keyboard (much more than I did on my Mogul). Other than that, I have no clue but my GF is going to activate her diamond today and i'll compare.

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

I just switched from the diamond to the TP. The TP is a little thicker (about the thickness of your stylus difference) and is a little heavier but in no way a problem. I find the TP to be snappier in applications and TF3D, although not by much. I don't text anyone but my wife but I found that having the slideout keyboard made it much faster to text her without error. I'm not having to backspace so much!! LOL. Anyhow, I love both phones and both are sitting here on my desk starring at me cause I have'nt sent back the diamond yet. To be honest, I like the burgundy/black color scheme better then the chrome/silver color scheme of the TP. But to each his own. They both have thier flaws as any phone/electronics do but I find that the TP suits me better. DO I think it's worth the thickness? YES! Go for it dude, you get another 30 days so if you don't like it, return it again for the diamond.

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

I would do it. The touch pro is a better phone with better battery life and less quirks. I end up using the on screen keyboard a lot too but then again I am coming from a touch which left me no other option.

You won't be dissappointed its a great phone.

if you believe the rumors, the touch hd is coming out in the next year, so if you like the form factor of the diamond, wait it out for the hd.

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

The on-screen keyboard is easy to use. You can switch the layout of the on-screen keyboard to several different types of keyboards including Full QWERTY, Compact QWERTY, and Keypad.

The screen is really responsive and I've got no trouble using the on-screen keyboard to enter text.

That said, I really like the 5-row slide out QWERTY keyboard. It makes entering text very easy. The 5 full rows of keys have a lot of common symbols and characters on theme that save time when compared to 3 and 4 row keyboards.

Think about how much text you are going to be entering and think about how much you will or will not miss a sliding 5 row keyboard.

Also, think about the weight. The Touch Pro is the heaviest phone I've carried. That said, I kind of like the weight. I think it will help me remember not to drop it!

Just saw in a mag called PCWORLD that the HD is NOT scheduled to hits the states...I would love it if it were but HTC said NO

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

OP id say it depends on how much you use the hard keyboard.

Ill go the opposite direction here. There are some MAJOR quality control issues right now with the Pro with the dpad and earpiece. I just got home with my second Pro I got this morning and the speaker sounds blown and Im already sick of going to BB to swap it already- ill probably just return it for good this time and stick with the Diamond and go back to being out of contract. Im still on my first Diamond a month later and its been a flawless build.

All these people saying how one is more responsive or "better" are full of it. The same bull feud between the Touch and Mogul people all over again on whos device is better, except now these are EXACTLY the same devices just one has a keyboard and card slot slapped on. I have both in front of me and they both run equally as quickly opening the same programs and going through Touchflo

no matter what anyone says, yes the thickness is only the width of the stylus difference but it FEELS substantially bigger and heavier in the hand.

Honestly I find myself not using the keyboard anymore. I do more typing on my PC and it's no good while driving. RAM never been a issue for me even on a Titan. I might switch with my GF's diamond.

What's BULL?? Look....first off, maybe I had a defective diamond but it had issues. The speed dial, if i put more than 5 contacts it slowed to a crawl, that's with NO enhance programs (stock). Every single time. And also from multiple hard resets. I have both in front of me as well and I have all 16 contacts filled and running smooth on the TP. Now as far as main stream usage, I Don't see a HUGE difference. They are both great phones, I just personally like the TP better. If I could afford the diamond too, I'd give it to the wife.

Re: Should a swap my diamond for a TP?

The bull is the same childish argument as between Vogue and Mogul users- no my phone is better, no mine is, no mine is. Its enough. Everyone has their own personal experiences but neither is "better" for everybody. People here are so territorial of their choice of device, it gets kind of sad to watch the bickering after a while.

And as a matter of fact not opinion, unlike the Vogue/Mogul, both of these devices are nearly 100% identical in specs. So neither is "better," it depends on your usage pattern and needing a keyboard. All these kind of threads bring about are people's personal biases

Yeah, I was wondering about the "longer battery life" claim because both have the same battery...

Does the TP run hot after playing youtube or on a weak signal/roaming? How is it's radio strength?

I might have to replace my diamond since having a toaster in the pocket doesn't make my boys too happy...

I agree with you 110%!! But I NEVER once compared MY phone to someone elses and nor will I. I was making a statement from MY own personal experiences. I also never bashed the diamond. In fact I like the darn thing. If I could afford it, I'd keep it!! But personally, I like hearing other peoples thoughts and opinions. For some it helps in thier purchasing decisions. The bashing, and my phone is better than yours thing, I agree, needs to quit and is childish.

cornelious2 11-01-2008 03:35 PM

Re: Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

I would say it all depends on your hard keyboard useage (I personally liked the moguls keyboard better the buttons were a little rounded) and the size of your hands. I have large hands so my hands were litterally cramping on the side of the diamond. the tp however is like the perfect size the extra couple mm made all the difference.

its ok it was never directed at you, just a general comment towards people's attitudes in this and other threads in general

Both devices have the same battery. In my experience, because I have switched from a Touch Diamond to a Pro, the Touch Pro stock has just as good battery life as cooked ROMs (such as Juciy 2.x). Touch FLO3D seems a bit more responsive; however, the contact list on the Touch Pro is much less responsive than the Diamond (which could be fixed by a custom ROM).

Re: Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

i work here at sprint, so ive been using both (diamond on my personal line). I think both phones are AWESOME. There are things I love about both, just like the mogul vs touch debate, they both have there respective strengths and weaknesses. It all boils down to the user. Ill be keeping my diamond though. 4 gigs is plenty for me and the size factor is also a big deal to me. I love the Pro also, but im past my 30 days so....

It does not feel that much bigger. Feels just fine in my pocket, and I am coming from a Touch. Holding it actually feels better. Love my touch, but Touch Pro is a nice upgrade to me.

Re: Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

With the exception of slideout keyboard and asthetics the Diamond Touch and Touch Pro have the same internal hardware/GPU/CPU/memory so in theory performance should be similar and any differences is probably related to the OS and software image. In the end, it boils down to personal decision. For me, I loathe virtual keyboards since I use it more as a laptop replacement for work network management. The TP is excellent but a Diamond HD Pro with slideout keyboard and larger screen, if it ever comes out, will be a definite future upgrade. The true usefulness and convergence of the laptop and phone has officially begun with the TP.

UPDATED - My bad. I was thinking of the Touch HD with the larger screen. A Touch HD Pro with slideout keyboard is what I'm dreaming of.

Re: Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

the screens are identical in size (looking at both togather to make sure right now) and there are some hardware differences sd vs internal memory, flash vs no flash, different rom memory so its not the 1 to 1 you make it seem.

Re: Should I swap my diamond for a TP?

I'm ordered the swap tomorrow. I have read the debate over and over again, I love my Diamond, it's just I feel the Pro would better suit my individual needs. The Diamond is definitely smaller, and I don't know why any of you are saying this device isn't snappy. I've had mine well over a month, still on the stock rom(though I have mad some reg mods.) Whatever the case maybe though, this device is in no way fashion or form a slouch and neither will the TP be either.
I plan on doing a a thorough analysis of of both, I can't do a full review of the TP in a day. I mean I could but that wouldn't be fair to the Diamond, so I will post pics, and a gradual review. I'm going to do radio comparison, SIP response, my contacts don't lag at all but, I'll check that out to. I will use all of the reg mods I have used on my Diamond and apply them to the Pro. I probably am going to miss this small size though, it's really nice and 4gb is a lot of room for me to play with. The 2nd is just a few hours away, so better get ready to order, because I am.

Glad to hear you are getting the Touch Pro. I remember you from the Diamond forums. If people are saying that the Diamond is slow, then they have no idea what they are talking about. The Touch Pro and the Diamond are almost identical in terms of hardware. The ROMs on the other hand, at this point, are much different.

I do miss the small and lightweight formfactor of the diamond. 4GB is plenty for me also. Heck I had a killer small soft leather (top loading) magnetic case (got it at radioshack) that was perfect for the D. I had to return it cause the TP just wouldn't fit. I've been trying to convince (begging actually) the wife to start a 4th line to keep it and use it strictly to take to work!! Nasty evil looks says it all!! It's not that the TP is better, it's that it's better for me. Like I said in the previous post, the only problem I had was the speed dial contacts in TF3D. On a stock rom, no reg edits (and with reg edits), and after multiple hard resets, It would get sluggish ( you know like your dragging a window on your PC from one side to the other but your PC is doing something intensive and it skips around)? It did that consistantly only after I added a 6th contact. 1st 5 it ran smooth as butter flicking through them. Maybe the phone is defective?? It wasn't so bad that I had to trade it in though. I'm just a tech freak and I have to have the latest. Sprint offered me the TP for even swap for the D and I took it, that's all. If I would've had to spend any money out of pocket whatsoever to trade, I would still have the D.
