I haven't looked that closely at the Instinct but everything you mentioned seems well within the realm of possibilities.

In fact, most of what you mentioned are fairly normal for smartphones today. It is certainly not limited to a WM phone.

Instinct runs on a Brew/Java platform. There is supposed to be a lot of 3rd party development for the Instinct taht will be easy to download to the phone. I am not a big fan of Windows Mobile. Battery life is supposed to be much better on the Instinct as the phone uses a different way of operating apps and memory. My Mogul battery life sucks. Am not a heavy user but sometimes have to recharge twice a day. Other friends complain about their Mogul's battery weakness too, even with replacement batteries.

Here's an Instinct spec list:

I haven't had any problems with battery life. I have two and they are both OE batteries and were new when I got them. I probably spend about 2-3 hours on the web (Opera Mobile), an hour of talking, and about 20-30 texts a day (within 12-14 hours) and it has never gotten below 70%.

I'd say wait until it comes out before we start putting this phone on a pedestal. Funny what people were saying about the Mogul and Touch before they came out.. they were better than sliced bread. And then people started actually using them and found out some of the faults.
Still great phones but definitely no perfect.

I just replaced my stock battery with a 1590ma Sprint branded battery. This one is lasting at least 3 to 4 times as long, up to 2 days with normal usage. That being said, my other one was a year old and I had probably initially ruined it by having email on every 5 minutes and IR on. Back then it was lasting about 6 hours with minimal usage.

Ok, I just wana clear things up, sprint is focusing on the instinct for june. It will not blow away the iphone, its not even a pda. Number two, there has been no Official word on when to expect the diamond, or the Raph. Speculation from a source within the test group (who develops the final product for sprint) is that we will see the diamond and Raph LATE 3rd quarter. So don't hold your breath for too long because you have some time to wait

Based upon the industry's definition of a PDA phone, the Instinct sure fits those qualifications. And to add, the Instinct can operate as a modem for your laptop and can sync to Outlook. Current iPhone can't do that.

The Features of a PDA Cell Phone
The number of features that are associated with a PDA cell phone are increasing all of the time. A sampling of the features that you can expect to access through a PDA cell phone today include:

telephonic communication
email
Internet access
text messaging
photo storage and transmission
calendar
digital and electronic file storage
video viewing

Google and you'll find otherwise.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents out there since I've actually handled the phone and played around with it for a bit. User interface is alright. I'm not overly enthused about it, but yeah it's nice. The tactile feedback isn't something I need, but if you're looking for it, then cool. Picturemail is nice, but hey we're getting that with the next update. Video viewing...yeah...right. That left a lot to be desired. Internet access is nice...evdo rev. a, but the web browser was pathetic. It was unable to render a lot of sites how they were supposed to be. (Which seems to be the case with most mobile browsers.) Visual voicemail is nice, but in my opinion, not needed. After running quite a few applications and bumming around on the web, the thing slowed to a snails pace.

My personal opinion, I'm not enthused about the instinct. At all. I'll be sticking to the windows mobile phones.
