Why the i760 over the XV6800?

Why did you pick the i760 over the XV6800?

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

Funny that this is posted. I originally swapped my Treo 700wx for the xv6800 without doing much research because my Treo had trouble connecting to my notebook with Vista. Anyways after reviewing the stats of each I swapped the xv6800 for the i760 and I'll list why:

1. Camera. Even with less megapixels, camera quality is better, xv6800 seemed to diminish the quality, looked a bit faded.

2. The headphone jack!!! One of my bigger reasons for changing. xv6800 has only a mini USB (11 pin) port and I wasn't a big fan of any of the avail bluetooth headsets, I use my PPC for music a lot.

3. External Keypad. Makes it a bit easier for quick dialing numbers, once in landscape the keypad becomes the primary number pad, so you don't have to hit FN to type a digit.

4. Software. This comes with Voice Command, much better than that crappy Voice Dial on the xv6800. Not sure if you have messed with Voice Command, but you can dial numbers or contacts, open apps, control Media Player, or even ask what time it is and may other commands. Oh yeah, it's user reliant, so NO training!

5. Picsel Browser. One of the best document readers avail in my opinion.

6. Battery. Came with both the Extended and Standard battery.

7. Design. Wasn't impressed with the xv6800's design, this one has a more sleek, and I think a more professional design. The keyboard on the xv6800 has a straight, soft-key layout, and I was more used to the "Smile" layout of the Treo, so I didn't like it. The i760 has harder rounded ind keys, so you know you hit the button. As for the face of the xv6800, I did like the extra hardware buttons, but the d-pad was raised a bit over the soft keys with a somewhat sharp edge.

8. Cheaper. By $50.

I know some of these sound a bit petty, but hey, if your gonna get something of this dollar amount that you will be on all the time, get the best.

The only two things I really liked about the xv6800 was the excellent speakerphone quality, far surpasses the quality of most phones with speakerphone off, no joke. And it would take a 4GB SD, but I believe there is a hack to enable higher capabilty on the i760, but haven't installed yet.

Basically, go get the i760!!!

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

Why not to pick the I760 over xv6800

1) half the on board storage memory

2) distinct lack of samsung rom upgrades and inability to cook your own custom rom

3) larger device

4) persistant issues with the touch screen going out

5) lack of sdhc support beyond 6gb even with driver hack

6) proprietary charging port (6800 uses mini usb)

7) inferior reception to xv6800

hardware doesn't support future upgrade to evdo rev A

9) ext battery in i760 is 1500mah same size as stock xv6800 battery

10) xv6800 can use the new $30 unlimited email and web for smartphone similar unlimited for i760 is $45

I sell both of these phones and have used each for quite some time both are good phones but the htc is well worth the extra $50.

Some of my thoughts.

This was a nice feature.

3. External Keypad. Makes it a bit easier for quick dialing numbers, once in landscape the keypad becomes the primary number pad, so you don't have to hit FN to type a digit.

This was a large selling point for me with larger fingers.

6. Battery. Came with both the Extended and Standard battery.

The extended lasted me 2-3 days. I switched back to the standard just to make the phone smaller in my pocket.

7. Design. Wasn't impressed with the xv6800's design, this one has a more sleek, and I think a more professional design. I agree. I just wasn't crazy about the look & layout of the XV6800.

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

I agree. My 2 main reasons for swapping for the sch i760 are

1) The button layout on the xv6800 look sleek, but are tough to use, almost impossible to tell which button you are pressing without looking.
2) dialpad on the outside - I tried to use the on screen dial pad - it sucks.

Why would the data plan be more expensive per device????

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

Verizon just released a new $30 unlimited email and web for smartphone and is for the xv6800, smt5800, and Q9m only as the feature exists currently. The $45 unlimited remains on the i760.

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

Man this i760 forum is dead! I'm making the switch from my XV6700. I guess the fact there's no custom kitchens kills this phone on this site.

Re: Why the i760 over the XV6800?

I've had the 6700, the 6800, the TILT (AT&T - network sux!!) and now the i760. The Samsung is a much better piece of hardware than the 6800 - in terms of quality and implementation. The Tilt is a great piece of hardware - lots of memory, lots of included apps, but GSM which means AT&T. The i760 is simply the best thing out there right now for CDMA networks.

I do hate the proprietary connector, but that's a small price to pay for a good handset.

pdaphonehome.com seems to be the place for the i760 on the net.
