It is goofy. First of all it only shows one person as you start typing their name. When you finally spell it out far enough to get the correct person. God forbid you want to call someone with the same last name as another contact, ie your wife when your mother has the same last name and name starts with a letter before your wifes. When you get that contact brought up you then click their name. Now it shows their phone number, now you can click the dial button. Same for the call log, you can sometimes click exactly in the call button, but it is a hell of a task and typically brings up the persons profile.

Oh, OK. You should give "dialer one" a shot, it has smart dialing and like the HTC dialer will show around 3-4 contacts as you are pressing keys. I have not played with the dialer much on the Epic as its my wife's phone but I will check this out later.

This thread has to be fake. Having owned a series of Windows Mobile devices starting with the PPC6700, the IP830W, Mogul or PPC6800, Diamond, Touch Pro and then finally the Touch Pro 2 (loved it at the time), and finally the Evo 4G and now the Epic, I have to say that I find it extremely hard for anyone to go back to Win Mobile after using a device like the Epic. But thats just IMHO.

Cheers.

I was there due to an absolute hate of the default screen keyboard. Made my call, found a buyer and then happened upon another keyboard. Since then I have only 1 complaint, the Bluetooth implementation and that is not bad enough to junk the phone. As I have mumbled before, if I knew then what I know now, I would never have purchased the Evo. The Epic would have been it. The TP2 is an excellent device and never has given me any problems. I still carry it with me.

With 7 home screens, there is plenty of real estate to add shortcuts for you most frequently dialed numbers.

No option to see them all at once though, which I seriously enjoyed about the EVO. It made jumping to a certain application a snap. Also I don't prefer the home screen key being swapped with the menu button. I think that far button should take you to the main page.

i agree 100%

Its not the fear of change, it simply wasnt worth it for me to use my upgrade yet. I had high hopes for the phone and was planning on buying it, but because the call quality(sounds tinny + ambient noise isnt filtered like my TP2), and the screen wasnt as nice as it was amped up to be, I chose to wait. Unlike others who pay for the everything data plans, I cant upgrade every year, and with more devices rolling out(+ WP7) I want to hold onto my upgrade and see if something else is worth my investment for the next two years. I like the phone, and I agree, the TP2 is a POS by comparison, but the mic and speakers are one of the best I have ever used, and it still does what I need it to.

PS: Before I get flamed for saying the screen isnt as good as I hoped, consider that my vision is not quite like everyone elses. My eyes are somewhat biased towards red colors, so its easy for me to distinguish the staggered red sub-pixels.

stay away from anything with out a real QWERTY keyboard!!, I'm watching the industry moving to a screen only platform and I'm joining the many who do not want to type on a smooth surface, while having the convenience of a Computer in their pocket..
(phone optional)

Then again, I only have 33 posts and an old Diamond (with hacked roms), so what's my opinion worth anyway.

Well..I checked back in after a time with the TP2 and I have to say I still made the correct choice for me. Unlocking and using the Energy ROMS put this device in a much better light.

As for me having only a few posts, head on over to the Treo Pro forums from whence I came. I am not a spammer or have any interest in one phone or another. I would toss around my technical credentials which include working for a major CDMA/ equipment supplier in which I work(ed) on many of the gee whiz feature sets that we all enjoy. However I don't believe that would be productive and after a month of my TP2, I will say again I made the right choice in this case.

I haven't dialed that way since I had a flip phone. Why not push Contacts, scroll to the one you want, press the contact and push call? 3 easy steps.

How can you not press the 1/2" call button easily on the call log screen?

Also, as someone mentioned, you can add 1-click call widgets to any contact/number on your home screens. Looks like 20 will fit on 1 screen. Lots of options.
