Re: Sprints EVO 4G and EPIC 4G Comparison

Waste of time IMO. If you’re going to compare a phone compare it with something that’s better or at least on the same level. Also don’t just talk about how great the new phone is and say nothing about the one you’re “comparing” it to. No specs or anything? I’m sure the screen size is smaller and it has a keyboard. DLNA? (sp?) I'll pass for now...

the epic has much better specs but it's a crappy samsung with ugly touchwiz.

Re: Sprints EVO 4G and EPIC 4G Comparison

The Epic is listed at 4" for the screen size, all of us have heard about the cameras and the sale price without any discounts: $499.99. That's $500.

Re: Sprints EVO 4G and EPIC 4G Comparison

I Love my EVO, but I'm still not a fan of the soft keyboard. I could live with swype, but it's not compatible with 2.2 yet. I would take an epic over the EVO. It's not worth switching, but If I was buying right now for sure.

This version of swype works fine with 2.2 as I am running it right now and it even has the mic button..

A guy i work with got the AT&T version of the Galaxy S and I really wasn't that impressed with the screen. At least not as much as I thought and well frankly the screen looked small compared to my EVO :D

That may be true but considering you can install many different launchers from the market touchwiz isn't much of an issue really.

Thanks for the tip, but 1.56 has issues with 2.2. I'm glad it's working for you, but I've had bad results. I know there is a 1.6 swype beta somewhere. Maybe that will fix it.

Also, swype 1.56 prevents my phone from sleeping. I had to wipe my phone three times to determine this.. that was a pain.

To add to the topic. I have NEVER liked HTC's build quality.. period. They are the Chevy of smartphones IMHO. I had a Samsung i730. it was build like a tank. Still works to this day.

Thats what i was saying as well... I want to see how Sprint will Market the Epic because if i start to see more commercials an products im going to be a little upset! As far as products i know its also an HTC thing but Sprint can fource their hand an have them hurry up wit those ... I like the Keyboard on the Epic But I Love my EVO

Maybe they're hoping to snatch the customers that were not a fan of the Evo. Plus with the Evo on backorder, they probably want those people waiting to jump to the Epic. Its all about $$

Rager02 08-12-2010 01:36 PM

That video was horrible....i doubt I will dump my evo for this. The keyboard doesn't look good I wish it didn't have it like the gsm versions of the phone.

Old Touch Pro 2 users will flock to this phone in heartbeat...that's a giving...yet I am not one of them. I'm actually hoping this allows the Evo to get in stock at a higher capacity....since they will probably be alot of people that were wanting the Evo but are now going to go for the Epic...who knows...only time will tell.

They were trying to push the "benefits" over the EVO because they are trying to push some of the EVO demand over to the Epic.

Just use Shapewriter. I like it better than Swype.

But seriously, if you NEVER liked HTC's build quality, why buy one?

I'm running it now with no issues. I've used it on the OTA 2.2 and now i'm using it on a rooted 2.2(OMJs). Works great.

This will be interesting as samsung makes the screens for the Evo, itll be something seeing people jump around between phones.

The Epic is pretty much 2x more powerful then the EVO..Don't get me wrong..the EVO is a good phone but it has a 4 year old CPU in it...the Epic's CPU is 1 years old and is brand new + has a dedicated GPU. Also Sprint only mentioned DLNA, but it can do full screen out via 3.5mm and HDMI via microusb port. If you want specs look at our Galaxy S section.

Um.. I'm using swype on my 2.2 OMJ ROM...

you have to uninstall both the installer and the app. then redownload the latest beta and install. then it will work.

I'm running a 1.56 revision - I also haven't had an issue with it not sleeping.. BUT I am on OMJ's ROM with 2.2. Maybe it's an issue with the "stock" 2.2 version.

I know it wasn't working for me at all after I updated to 2.2. So after digging through some forums, someone suggested uninstalling BOTH the swype installer and the swype app. Then resend your beta email to yourself and re-download the app and install it.

I'm on the beta list so I'm not using the one from XDA --- but try getting rid of the installer and app and then install it all again. See if that does it.

Bleepyeah they are, i agree there.. they cant get enough EVOs to supply the demand + the insurance claims through sprint stores, 3rd party retailers, and asurion.. Sprint NEEDS the EPIC to be...well... EPIC to relive stress AND tension from the EVO shortages..

If HTC are the chevys of smartphones then samsung is what, ford or better yet a ford focus; apple must be what, buick. People say the craziest things.

The evo has an 8mp camera compared to 5mp of the epic and a biiger screen and its hotspot can connect to 8 devices compared to the epics 5. Beyond that it's a samsung. Im still trying to find someone who likes the instinct intinct hd or even someone who likes the moment over the mogul.

The epic 5mp camera has a better sensor then the 8mp in the Evo...so the pictures and video are better on the epic. Evo has only a 0.3 screen but that up to preference..we lived with smaller screens before and you can't exactly say a TP2 screen is small...as for hot spotting 8 devices or 5..does it really make that much of a difference? how many times have you hot-spotted say more then 3 devices?

Now as for HTC vs Samsung..guys are you serious? The ONLY reason we like HTC was because they were the ONLY ones giving us windows mobile devices..but overall they have screwed us over more times that I can count..in giving us 3-4 year old hardware, skimping on a few bucks and not pay qualcomm for hardware acceleration...taking out the 3.5mm ports(which luckily the carriers had them put back in)..the only thing that made HTC worth it was the community and we know it...

From what I see the Galaxy S series is the first "decent" device that Samsung gave us..and we should give them a chance..or are we like those Apple fanboys who are stuck up only on 1 company and no matter what they give us? Don't get me wrong I'm not insulting HTC..but you gotta realize HTC cant make 20 devices in a year...if we stick to hTC only our choices diminishes..the more manufacturers that can live up to our standard, the better off we are with making a choice...

Lastly..stop using the Instinct as an example..if you have to compare your HTC device to a dumb phone..then that just sad...

and this surprises you? look what they did to the hero in less than 10 months time. im actually leaning towards buying an epic just as long as i can remove touchwiz and we get some custom roms. i guarantee you the evo will be outdated by x-mas.

what i do not understand is why the epic will be $100 more than the evo was at launch?

Its 50$ more at launch..why would you say $100?

yankees45us 08-23-2010 11:43 PM

The epic is only $50 more than the evo. I guess some people feel the keyboard warrants the extra cost. Although the processor and screen are suppose to give it better battery life than the evo. Not to mention the 4g radio on epic is suppose to have a sleep mode that conserves battery life, something that the evo supposedly doesn't have. I guess we will see what the reviews show. Either way I would try to get tp2. They originally offered me the snap too. That's a slap in the face comparing the snap to tp2.

Nope it still won't be the best phone...it would be missing the hummingbird processor and the 3-4x more powerful gpu...and a 6 axis sensor..also the better camera sensor, bluetooth 3.0, audio quality >.>

yea, I don't really care for the keyboard.

Re: Sprints EVO 4G and EPIC 4G Comparison

My take:
The Evo doesn't justify its proportions. It has a big screen, without having a higher resolution. It has worse battery life, without better performance, it is thick, but has no keyboard. It feels solid, but doesn't have gorilla glass. It's got a kickstand but can't play 720p mkvs. It has HDMI, but is capped at 30fps. I think the Epic is just a more balanced phone in general.

late,
Coz
