Any regrets?
hey...... I have been thinking about getting the Evo and have done a ton of research on the phone and specs inside. I can really close in purchasing the Evo last week but chicked out for a reason. Has anyone seen the upcomming Samsung Galaxy? On Sprint it will be called "Epic". But my main reason I backed away from the Evo was the fact that the Epic will be released this summer. And it packs 3 times more power than the snapdargon inside the Evo. And specially the fact that its not a HTC phone. Htc in my opinion build poor quality phones. So what does everyone think about the Epic?

Re: Any regrets?
I don't know much about the Epic. I'm sure its a good device and will have a following, but it will be much smaller. Mark my words, the epic forum will be a third of the size of this one, maybe smaller. Having said that, the Evo is a great device and I have absolutely no regrets. I don't agree that HTC make poor devices either. Ive had 5 of them in the last several years and they held up quite nicely. One more thing, if the Epic is that much better than the Evo, why do you think Sprint has made the Evo its flagship? Why would they do that and turn around a put out another device that's much better shortly thereafter? That would be highly stupid.

Re: Any regrets?
None. I wouldn't change anything either!!

Re: Any regrets?
My only regret is that I didn't switch to android earlier. As for the evo vs epic its all about preference. There are a lot of people out there that would love to have an evo but can't do without a keyboard and the epic would fill that need for sure.

I just love how people constantly are searching to either validate their purchase or worry about whether something is better coming out. Just be happy with what you got peeps. More often than not, if you get the Epic/Evo you will dislike something and complain about it so whats the difference. In the end, the Evo will be a dinosaur in a year as will the Epic. That's why we are all the knuckleheads that we are dropping tons of cash on the next great device:mrgreen: |

Re: Any regrets?
I'm waiting* for the Epic, the super amoled screen & the A8 processor will most likely give the device better battery life then the Evo. also, in all the hands-on videos of the Epic, the scrolling looked super smooth and the display looked amazing, especially the black levels. that doesn't mean it's a better phone than the evo though, both are great. if you want the option of using a keyboard, get the epic. no keyboard = evo. wait till the epic comes out and play around with it. buy the one you like the best.
*i have to wait till January to upgrade, that's the only reason i don't have an evo right now. now i must resist impulse buying the epic when it comes out this month.... sigh. ](*,) |
Re: Any regrets?
Great responses! I was expecting the evo trolls to come out and say "Evos the best!go to hell!". Yes, the galaxy will be released to almost all the big US carriers and I do expect a big following. In paper.... the Galaxy smokes the Evo. But like one of you said " in a year both the Evo and Epic will be dinosaurs. hehe

Re: Any regrets?
Now that I warmed up to android I will do as I did with every wm device I wanted...buy every one when it comes out. Lol
Bye bye WM, it was fun. |
Re: Any regrets?
yup. Im running adroid on my old touch, tp and tp2. I cant believe i was still hanging on to wm. Its either iphone or Android. And it aint iphone.

Re: Any regrets?
I certainly have no regrets. Every technology has a point where it becomes "good enough," and you're no longer itching to upgrade with every new release. For me, the Evo achieves that in the smartphone market. It does everything I want it to do, and I can't think of anything specific that I dislike about it.
So even though newer phones, like the Epic, might have better hardware, I won't be upgrading early, because my Evo is "good enough" for my purposes. |
Re: Any regrets?
No regrets, either.
After getting so used to this screen I couldn't go back ... I totally underestimated the ease of use of the touchscreen; thus I don't think I need a slide out keyboard. Phone looks aiight, but I feel pretty set with muh Evo. ;) |
Re: Any regrets?
Take in mind, XDA-devs does not support non-HTC devices. And even though a similar device will be released on major carriers, they will not be the same device. Most of the hard core programmers are on GSM carriers.
That said, if you enjoy Stock Android, then that should not be of concern, because it will enjoy the same support as all Android devices. If you can wait for updates, I am sure Samsung will have some sooner than later, since they don't have to deal with making Sense work with the OS updates. |
Re: Any regrets?
A couple of things to remember, 1st and foremost what people don't realize with Samsung is that custom roms aren't allowed. For you to run a custom rom on a Samsung it has to be built from an actual Samsung ported rom. No custom roms or cyanogen roms will work with Samsung, that's why the moment didn't get 2.1 until a leaked sprint rom surfaced, then they made custom roms from that.
2nd how long has the snapdragon processor been around, years now. The hummingbird processor is brand new, it better be better. My next device will hopefully be 1.5 snapdragon or whatever they want to call it. Sent from my Evo using Tapatalk |
Re: Any regrets?
No regrets. I paid full price for my Evo just over a week ago and the plan was to save my October upgrade for Epic 4G. Now, after actually using the Evo, I have fallen in love with it. I still like what I`m hearing about the Epic, but Evo is more than enough for me. I may save the upgrade for something else later down the road.

Re: Any regrets?
I have been with a hardware qwerty from the ppc 6600 and never thought I would go to a touch screen keyboard. For a month running up to getting my evo I started playing with the TP2 onscreen keyboard it was a little rought, but I got used to it. Then when I got my evo I was amazed how easy it was to type on. The predictive/corrective is amazing. I actualy feel I can type as fast if not slightly faster than on my tp2. and I was able to type full speed w/o looking at the keyboard on my tp2. I actually find slide out keyboards to be ugly and take away from the sleek look of the phone. I'm with htc evo untill it craps out and I get upgraded to another phone.
Oh and I'd like to give a shout-out to htc for making shabby phones that eventually die and sprint protection plan for replacing them. I bought the 6600 and was upgraded through 6700, 6800, tp, tp2. I sold my TP2 for $230 and bought my evo. So I still haven't had any out of pocket cost for a my phones since the ppc 6600. Well I guess the only out of pocket cost was the monthly protection plan cost. -Loki |

Re: Any regrets?
Not a single regret. a hardware keyboardless phone is what i have been waiting for and the EVO delivered.
|
Re: Any regrets?
No regrets. For jumping into Android, I think this is the perfect place to start.
|
Re: Any regrets?
well there are pros and cons with both phones. with the evo, you have the higher megapixel camera, and im not sure if video chatting is supported on the epic?
the epic will be a bit bulkier than the evo (because of the slide out keyboard) THE ONE THING THAT MAKES BOTH OF THESE PHONE WINNERS NO MATTER WHAT YOU GET IS...........drum roll please........... ANDRIOD! |

or Android, if you want to get technical! :) |
Re: Any regrets?

Re: Any regrets?
This guy had no intention on buying the evo. He just wanted to talk smack and was hoping evo users would respond differently. You guys have a short memory if u don't remember his iphone vs evo threads. Troll.

I agree completely......it's easy to tell when people are being disingenuous. |
Re: Any regrets?
Well, honestly I'm in the tossup between the EPIC and EVO. Love the Evo, keep playing with it, but I use the keyboard on my TP2 ALL the time. I really mean all the time. When it's on, the keyboard is almost ALWAYS out. That's the only reason I've not jumped to the EVO yet.
About the post that XDA only supports HTC, pretty much true, but the samsung folks have their own similar forum called SDX developers. I've been reading everything on both phones, well the Galaxy S series and hearing about they issues they are exhibiting. Evo common issues: 30FPS without hack, weak WIFI, non standard (as usual from HTC) bluetooth stack, cracking plastic, screen separations, light leaks. Samsung Galaxy S issues: Some odd lag exhibiting with some apps, GPS signal issues, plastic reportedly feels weak/flexes too much. Samsung has a horrible past track record of supporting their phones, but since this is being released world wide and they want to take over large market share, hopefully this might change?!? They've already released an update for certain areas for the Galaxy S... To me, I think it's all going to come down to the keyboard for me. I've had soft keyboards in the past on quite a few devices and not sure I could go back... Either way, my next phone WILL be an android phone. |
Re: Any regrets?
Moved to Phone Comparison :)

As for the lag, some are saying new firmware updates fixed most of it if not all... Now for GPS...Ive heard some lock issues with using Google Maps but 3rd party navigation tools seem to lock ok...so my guess it is a software issue :/ |
Re: Any regrets?
Go with the Samsung Galaxy, it has the better iphone processor and its not made by the crappy company called HTC. As long as you stay away from HTC and their junk, you'll be fine.
