I hate the Evo screen keyboard. Good luck.

Well it's the keyboard and the fact the phone will cost 120 bucks extra a year... that part I am not thrilled about either.

Sorry i know is off topic but how much did you get for the TP2.

Dont forget to complain to the FCC about the "Premium Data"

sold it for 150, i got the evo last night, cant put it down....lossta stuff to download etz....definately a learning curve here...ill learn this os for sure, but there is a learning curve

I am back to really doubting wanting to keep the phone. I don't have any issue with outlook or any of the things people mentioned in the thread except I really like the TP2's keyboard... It is by far the best keyboard I have ever used coming from BB's, iphone, and ect. I just don't think a physical keyboard is going to be enough of a reason if the TP2 does not effectively give me enough of a reason to not also carry around my ipod. Something I am sure the EVO would do easily.

bottom line...yesterdays technology....n i loved/love my pt2, but...il get used to it, just like i did when computers came out n no one knew what to do with them...

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

I am going to play with the android OS on my tp2 for a little while, but also call some local stores to see if they have any EVO's in stock. None within a 30+ mile radius has had them in stock every time I go through the list. Depending on how droid does on the TP2, and if an EVO is in stock within the next few days I'll get one or keep the phone I have.

Talk about a world of difference not to mention the difference between a resistive screen versus a capacitive screen.

To the threadstarter, if in fact the keyboard is that important to you, you could always wait for the epic 4g, thats a very nice looking device with a nice hardware keyboard.

Yup I agree. capacitive is soooo much better. Incredible how much more responsive it is compared to resistive. Too bad the Evo snapdragon cpu is a joke thou. Theres that imput lag that does not go away no matter what.

thru it all, the evo kicks ass..i cant put mine down, n 4g is pretty impressive, so i guess the time ya save with 4g vs the lag you describe is a minor inconvenience, you try to pick fly shit out of the pepper, but this phone blows my old tp2 out of the water, i loved my touch pro, but im beginning not to miss it, much like my 1st wife

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

Just picked up the Evo today and I love it!! Gonna be selling my TP2 here very soon. I also cant stop playing with it, much more excited over this than I was the TP2 even though I called an ordered the TP2 the day it was available on telesales and paid the $10 extra to have it overnighted. I'm not even in a rush to flash this like I was with the TP2. I was dying to flash it the day I got it and checking on here for the unlocker every 5 minutes. Kinda weird but I actually enjoy this phone the way it is right outta the box...

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

The novelty of the EVO wears off rather quickly. I played with a friends ERIS last night and the experience was almost identical. The Eris felt more fluid than the EVO because there wasn't a 30FPS limit on it. The only real point I can see to getting the EVO is if you live in a 4G area and don't mind leasing a phone.

Since my Treo days, I have loved and relished having a physical keyboard. Now that I have an Evo, I'm not of the mind that if I could get what I have with the Evo and a physical keyboard, I would.

The screen keyboards are good, but every one of them leaves something to be desired. If there was one that had all the features then it would be great, but I find myself moving from keyboard to keyboard trying to find all the features I had in a physical keyboard.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but back up often. If you plan on rooting, etc. Pick up a copy of Titanium Backup and pay for the paid version. The scheduling client doesn't always work, or at least i can't get it to work. Even when I have the application set to back up daily, it doesn't do it.

Sprite has a backup software for Android. it's what you'd expect from Sprite, it has bugs and they don't have very good support, but it's one of the viable solutions.

For whatever reason, the backup software for Android is just not very good.

I do live in 4G area but my main reason was that I wanted to switch to sprint as my bill will now be $50 a month cheaper than with Verizon. So I was gonna make the switch anyway, the Evo was just the icing on the cake!!

Just also remember, Evos are out of stock in a lot of markets. Just make sure it's in stock where you are. I hear the wait is interminable.

Oh I have one, just bought it yesterday morning. Found a Best Buy near me that had been holding one for a customer. Employee who was holding it had hid it in one of the lock-up cases. He just returned from vacation yesterday and it was still there so I lucked out.

Man, you have no idea how much you lucked out. Most of the locations in NYC that i've been to have all said that they're sold out and that's been the case for weeks.

It does wear off quickly, dosen't it.

The EVO is a VERY cool phone, no boubt, But I want more before I switch EVERYTHING over for the next year.

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

Well I watch a lot of movies through my phone with it plugged in to my tv so the HDMI out was a selling point. LED flash that I missed so much with my TP2, FM radio, HD recording, excellent camera and video recorder, capacitive screen, and so on were also all big selling points for me. That and the excellent Sprint service in my area(with some 4G) and saving over $50 a month on my bill. All added up to a no-brainer for me, of course others situations/needs will vary...

Yea, you can adapt to the EVO keyboard fairly smoothly (the auto correct used to piss me off sometimes). However, going back to a TP2 keyboard was like night and day. I never realized it, but I missed the TP2 keyboard quite a bit.

We get you. We understand. We understood you the first 4 times you posted in this thread. You didn't like the EVO and love your TP2. Congrats. TP2 is a great phone, probably the best for those with specific needs (Clem touched on a few, although most can be solved with various Android assets). You don't have to keep justifying your decision (maybe its to make yourself feel better about your decision). The EVO is not for everyone, we understand (really, is there ANYTHING that fits everyone?). But for a great majority of people, the EVO is a better choice than the TP2, in so many ways (again, there are specific areas that the TP2, mostly windows related, will be better suited for someone).

Your constant replies and allusion to 'evo fanboys' has me thinking you're actually looking for a fight or someone to dispute you. I won't. I just say congrats on enjoying your TP2 (I enjoyed mine the 9 months i had it and still have it for international travel) but no need to come in every 3 replies saying the same ideas with different wording. :)

That wasn't my intent. I was just conversing on topics that were posted. Isn't that point of a forum? Are you going to post the same condescending message for anyone who posts something repeating what was previously said in a thread?

Relax.

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

I am going to tell you about my story. I had a TP2 for about 6 months or so, flashed every rom there was to flash from ppcgeeks. Got involved with the Android development. Ended up spending more time in Android than in WM. I had an opportunity to upgrade. I couldn't make my mind up whether to jump ship to an Android phone which at that time I would have had to wait on the Evo so I chose to jump ship to the Samsung Moment. I was happy with the phone for a few days until i joined a few communities and started trying out some roms. Many were not much different than the stock one Sprint put out. I also missed hanging out here because the Moment threads are just about dead. This past week a member from another website got into some developer drama with other developers at the website and branched off and is doing his own website now,its turned into a pissing match. I have found that alot of the rom followers are rude as well as the developers. I also quickly learned these so called developers were not exactly developing anything but putting in different apks, changing a theme and calling it their own when someone else actually did the heavy developing and building. I should have just waited for the Evo but I wanted Android right then. I can also tell you that I will not own another Samsung phone so this Epic or whatever they want to call it will be a POS just like the Moment, as well as smaller communities with alot of drama. Samsung's following is a strange crowd. I am now saving up for an Evo and will have to pay full price for one. Live and learn I guess.

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

switching from the TP2 to the EVO is like night and day! the qwerty keyboard on the TP2 was nice, but the big screen with the onscreen keyboard is just as good especially with haptic feedback. the biggest issue with the TP2 was the horrible browsing experience. i used everything from stock, skyfire, and opera and they all suck compared to the multitouch features of the EVO. i am so glad i waited until the EVO. in fact, the only regret i have is that i had to give up my SERO500 plan. EVO FTW!

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

I was in the EXACT same boat you are in. I told myself I would never get a phone without a keyboard. Do I miss my TP2 keyboard? Yes I do. However the screen is so big on the evo I have really got use to typing and the auto-correction on it works wonders.

The only time I would say when it bothers me is when I am typing a very long text message sometime it can be annoying or playing emulator games which I just don't cause the on screen keyboard for that sucks.

Short messages doesn't bother me one bit and I can still bang out a text very quickly.

If I were you maybe just wait for the epic since that has a real keyboard. I do like the phone being slimmer and not having to worry about sliding it in and out is nice. Overall I am very happy with my decision even giving up sero, I am much happier with the phone.

Everything on the phone is so fast and everything on the TP2 was soooo slowwww. The pro's FAR out way the cons.

Re: Switching from TP2 to EVO

i LOVED my TP2... no question about it and i was also hesitant on moving on to the EVO. Typing on a on-screen keyboard is not a problem at all... as i expected! a great phone overall like the TP2, minus the lagging and a whole bunch of minor issues the TP2 had... i would recommend upgrading or waiting for the Epic 4G...

So former TP2 users, do you still feel good about your move to the EVO? I finally took the plunge and have mine on order. I have a little pre-android buyers aniety cause I have been using window mobile for years - apache, mogul, tp1, tp2. At first the EVO seemed like a beast but I think its growing on me. I have seen what windows phone 7 looks like and I am not excited by what I am seeing so I am giving up wainting for that. And the new sansung epic loosk and feels real cheap when I played with it at the store. Any comments appreciated.

Get Swype, problem solved. Ive had the EVO for about a week now. Best phone ever. Its like, a PSP without the control/action buttons, yet its touchscreen. Its a beast. Swype on this is way better than the HW KB and the battery is wonderful.

If you have a contract upgrade, for $200 TAKE IT! BUY IT! This phone is a monster! Ive used every Windows Smartphone under the sun since the Motos had WinCE 2001. Eats the droid for breakfast! Has Mobile Hotspot, up to 8 devices. Only use it on road trips for the laptop. Played NFS Shift on it. Gorgeous. 10/10 for the EVO. Now make extended life batteries and a new backing.
