you're also assuming we'll be able to modifications that are as extensive as WinMo can now, it won't necessarily be true that we'll be able to make the same changes with WP7, unless you've managed to go take a peek at the source code
and i'm not talking just the interface because iphone against wp7 i'd still take wp7 Metro. i'm also talking about the amount of control MS seems to be taking with WP7 which is right up apple's alley. google/android on the other hand, is still allowing even the most worthless of modifications to Android such as the LG Ally and the MyTouch Slide

I think microsoft may want to create a marketplace such as apple because of its success and their own xbox live success.. but i doubt it will be the only way to get content. If it is all our mobile futures are sealed in darkness for eternity...

hacking aside because all the other platforms have been hacked to get some third party apps but
microsoft has flat out said the windows phone 7 marketplace will be the only place to get apps and if they really mean it, who knows how tight the security will be and how long will it be until we do get modifications on it. and as far as interface goes, how much is there actually going to be to customize, with windows mobile most hacks are modifications to existing code, with WP7, we don't yet know what will be there for us to change
