Registry Hacks, Tweaks and .cabs

5 Attachment(s)
[temperamentalman suggested this thread originally...]

Here's a collection of common registry tweaks, mods and cabs for the Treo Pro. Most should work on the GSM and CDMA versions. I've attached all the .cabs locally for convenience and original links to the TreoCentral threads.

Mega thanks to Codyppc, Hannip, Zbop and others for doing these.

  • TreoAlerts: Control the LED, beacon, weather and repeat notifications--thanks to Hannip, Codyppc and Slingbox
  • IE6 Downgrade Toggle = make PIE like it use to be on older devices.

Mobile Internet Explorer shortcuts comes from CellNeuron. Simply install the attached .cab and use Cody's rollback, then follow these shortcuts.

Only works on the rolled back IE, not IE6.

This is really good for toggling fullscreen with "F" since we don't have softkeys to jump in and out.

Quote:

E : page up
D : page down
T : top
G : ground

P : Pictures toggle
enter: enter
backspace: back
F : full screen toggle
space : when no link is selected, page down.
when a link is selected, same as enter.

U : horizonal Page up
I : horizonal Page down
J : horizonal top
K : horizonal down

x : Default layout
C : Desktop layout
V : One column layout

Slot Cycle Index

Change Slot Cycle Index (SCI) = default is 2, change to 1 or 0 for faster incoming call notifications--this setting changes how often the phone "pings" the cell tower for incoming calls; has a slight negative effect on battery
  • Use BAF MSL Grabber to get your MSL code (needed)--install, turn off radio, run app and get MSL
  • Go to dialpad and type ##778#
  • Navigate to SCI value and change from 2 to 1 or 0
  • Hit okay/save and exit

Palm Threaded SMS

2 Attachment(s)
Palm Messaging App = replace the default WM 6.1 threaded SMS with the Palm version from the 800w. Thanks Hannip!

This helps with the "unread" SMS error and Palm screensaver whereby you always have 1 unread SMS in a thread, until you open the message directly. It also looks better and you get picture ID and emoticons back.

*Note MMS works for GSM version (attached) but only for sending with the CDMA version. Using sMMS helps to alleviate that issue on CDMA.

Palm Dial Lookup

2 Attachment(s)
Replace the WM/HTC dial lookup system with the superior Palm version.

Works from today screen, enables Picture Dial and 26 Alpha Speed dial as opposed to the 9 numerics from WM.

Use "Hide Carrier 1.0" (attached) to hide the now present Sprint/BT carrier line plugin.

Thanks Zbop!

Misc

Adjust screen sensitivity:

HKLM\Drivers\TouchPanel\PressureThreshold

Change PressureThreshold setting to 240 (decimal). You can also increase this number, but do so at your own risk.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keep Wifi on when Power is turned off:

Start > Settings > Connections > Power Mode
Select "on Button Press" or "Always on"

heh, no problem..been meaning to do that for awhile

like every WM devices, this one has quite the ton of initial annoyances, but once past those it's a damn solid device (well, except I miss calls in low-signal areas, but oh well)

yes.

Cody has been kind enough to create two different cab files. One will remove it completely and the other allows you to control if you want it on or off in the today screen. Both files are attached below

Voice Command/Charging Beep

Slow down the speed of the Voice Command lady:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Speech\Voices

change "DefaultTTSRate" from 4 to 5 to speed up or to 2 or 3 to slow down. Takes effect instantly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charger Connect/Disconnect Sound

Hate the Be-Doop noise when you plug/unplug to charge? So do I.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume

ChargerConnectSound
ChargerDisconnectSound

Under each, there is a string value called "File". Under the string, just change the sound file from "ChargerConnect.mid" to "ChargerConnect.old" (so you can put back if you want), or just delete. Don't matter.

Mal

I created two cab files for the changes above :). I tested them and they work.

Fix Skipping Sound when Playing Music

From Zbop (original post):

A little background...
HTC released a fix for the audio skipping on the GSM Diamond and Touch HD. I tried that cab on my Treo Pro and it hung my device, had to hard reset. Someone with a CDMA Touch Pro finally figured out what was modified and then created his own Raphael patch. So, I also tried that cab and it broke my USB, power and audio. Long story short, I disassembled the patched dll, figured out what the change was, and created a patch for the Sprint Treo Pro. The result is that I can now play music skip-free.

The bug is that one of the threads in a core HTC dll runs at too high a priority (real-time), and when it's active it interferes with the audio driver; this patch lowers the priority of the offending thread.

Installation (Sprint only):
1) Install sdkcerts.cab
2) Install STPAudioSkipFix.CAB
3) Soft-reset
4) If you are using Coreplayer, go to Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced and make sure that "Higher priority music playback" is checked

WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THIS ON A GSM Treo Pro!!

Not really. You can use sprite backup to backup most things, but it will backup at it's current state.

Looks like ur gonna have to hard reset to factory settings and start all over.

Hold reset button & End button simultaneously... Wait 5 seconds, release reset button first, continue to hold the end button, then release the end button after about 2-3 seconds.

Does anyone know of a .cab that will make my treo pro a modem

Re: Registry Hacks, Tweaks and .cabs

It doesnt need a cab. Use "internet sharing" already in the phone. Either Bluetooth or USB connection.

Installing this cab on my treo pro (sprint) made my phone unusable. The phone just hung at the startup bar which appears complete. I ended up having to restore to factory settings since taking the battery out just got me to the same place. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks

I used it with BT and it works fine.

I just connected it with the USB to my Windows 7 PC and it works fine. Plug and play pretty much.

Yup, problem fixed. Sorry 'bout that.

You need to install sdkcerts.cab prior to install to prevent this. File is attached in original post.
