Registry Hacks, Tweaks and .cabs

[temperamentalman suggested this thread originally...]

Here's a collection of common registry tweaks, mods and cabs for the Treo Pro. Most should work on the GSM and CDMA versions. I've attached all the .cabs locally for convenience and original links to the TreoCentral threads.

Mega thanks to Codyppc, Hannip, Zbop and others for doing these.

  • TreoAlerts: Control the LED, beacon, weather and repeat notifications--thanks to Hannip, Codyppc and Slingbox
  • IE6 Downgrade Toggle = make PIE like it use to be on older devices.

Mobile Internet Explorer shortcuts comes from CellNeuron. Simply install the attached .cab and use Cody's rollback, then follow these shortcuts.

Only works on the rolled back IE, not IE6.

This is really good for toggling fullscreen with "F" since we don't have softkeys to jump in and out.

Slot Cycle Index

Change Slot Cycle Index (SCI) = default is 2, change to 1 or 0 for faster incoming call notifications--this setting changes how often the phone "pings" the cell tower for incoming calls; has a slight negative effect on battery
  • Use BAF MSL Grabber to get your MSL code (needed)--install, turn off radio, run app and get MSL
  • Go to dialpad and type ##778#
  • Navigate to SCI value and change from 2 to 1 or 0
  • Hit okay/save and exit

Palm Threaded SMS

2 Attachment(s)
Palm Messaging App = replace the default WM 6.1 threaded SMS with the Palm version from the 800w. Thanks Hannip!

This helps with the "unread" SMS error and Palm screensaver whereby you always have 1 unread SMS in a thread, until you open the message directly. It also looks better and you get picture ID and emoticons back.

*Note MMS works for GSM version (attached) but only for sending with the CDMA version. Using sMMS helps to alleviate that issue on CDMA.

Palm Dial Lookup

2 Attachment(s)
Replace the WM/HTC dial lookup system with the superior Palm version.

Works from today screen, enables Picture Dial and 26 Alpha Speed dial as opposed to the 9 numerics from WM.

Use "Hide Carrier 1.0" (attached) to hide the now present Sprint/BT carrier line plugin.

Thanks Zbop!

Misc

Adjust screen sensitivity:

HKLM\Drivers\TouchPanel\PressureThreshold

Change PressureThreshold setting to 240 (decimal). You can also increase this number, but do so at your own risk.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keep Wifi on when Power is turned off:

Start > Settings > Connections > Power Mode
Select "on Button Press" or "Always on"

heh, no problem..been meaning to do that for awhile

like every WM devices, this one has quite the ton of initial annoyances, but once past those it's a damn solid device (well, except I miss calls in low-signal areas, but oh well)
