PALM TREO PRO advice sought

ok I have a palm treo pro on sprints network. I am going to upgrade to another phone but still want to use my treo. Will the wifi still work on the phone giving me access to the web if I move my number to another phone therefore turning off sprints service to the phone since the wifi is a hardware/software thing not a sprint thing. Also is there any programs out there that will allow me to use the phones other features without it being on a network. In esscence what can i do with the phone when its off the sprint network any programs that will allow the phone to work without paying for a service carrier.
