Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
I'd expect most people who bought a smartphone get the everything plan to get the full benefit. Otherwise it is like you bought a Ferrari without tires.

Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
Are you getting emails on your phone? There has to be something requesting data on your phone, eg. google maps. It can't just magically use data unless you use it yourself. It's not a scam, I think it's user error.

Text uses no data. Pic and vid mail use data transfer to receive the info from Sprint's servers. With the unlimited pic plan, you don't pay the service fee for receiving picture mail, but you still have to pay the $0.10/kb fee. It is a ripoff. Unlike ATT or Verizon, who use a separate transfer stream for pics and vids in their plans, Sprint intentionally runs it through the same servers to rack up charges. :protest: |
Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
I never got nailed with that even when i didn't have unlimited data...

Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
If you receive a picture or send a picture no problem no charge. If you send or receive a picture with text in it you get charged. Why i don't know? Of course, as posted earlier you can not download to phone or you will be charged. My daughter racked up a 45 dollar bill in 36 hours.

Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
It might be his plan too, iirc, the older plans didn't have MMS built in, it was an addon that you got/paid for which was seperate from unl data

Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
What are you, my grandpa? Nevermind... even my grandpa has internet on his phone.
Do you have a rotary phone too? |
Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
sprint used to sell picture mail under their "power vision" plan which was $15 a month for data. it has to d/l the pic, which means it has to go onto the net thru dial up networking, then d/l the pic to your phone. i have unlimited data . . . .so i dont have to worry about getting nickel and dimed. its $70 http://now.sprint.com/planpromise/?p...99Base:960x320 but 450 mins is pretty weak. all though it is unlimited mins to any mobile phone.

Re: Sprint's data scam work around?
the problem with that is in the contract it states that all PDA type phones MUST have a data plan attached to it as part of the service. I tried that once with verzion and they got out a copy of the contract i signed and showed me that all PDA/Smartphones are required to have some core data plan attached. How you are not required to have one beats me.
