SMS sort by date

I am using the OEM sms app and turned off the "chat" function. I like seeing each message by itself, but I noticed today (i've only had the phone about 6 days) that the date of each message that is more than 2 days old simply says 5T2 or some confusing way to shorten the date the message was received. Why does it not show the standard date like "Thursday 2-5-09"? Any idea how I can change it to do that? Thanks in advance for the help.
