800w Problems & microsd conflict????

I'm currently on my 3rd 800w. I'm starting to think if my microsd caused the previous problems of the other 2. I'm using a Patriot 2gb microsd & I'd like to know if anybody else is using the same thing or encountering similiar problems?

Some of the problems I experienced:
1. This one is the worst. I'll set the switch on top to silent before I go to sleep, when I wake up, the battery is completely drained. I charge the phone but can't turn it on. I repeatedly take the battery in & out as well as the charger plug & nothing happens. Can't turn it on. It will eventually come on several hrs later. This has happened 4 times between my last 2 800w.
2. The last 800w within the past one week, all of a sudden could not data connect when trying to surf the web. Requiring me to soft reset (about twice daily) before I could connect. Same issues with texting.
3. Both experienced the handsfree earpiece going out & not working. Again must soft reset.
4. On the last 800w, so many times I would press the talk button to dial but it would automatically hang up just as the call counter starts. A very frequent occurrance.
5. Takes a very long time to get out of roaming mode when a known area clearly has plenty of sprint signals.
6. I miss incoming calls like never before.
7. Battery status icon disappears replaced by a speaker icon that's not even listed in the user guide.
There's other things that have happened only once so I won't include it.

Programs that I had on there were Google Maps, Netfront (seldom used), Magic Button, Pdanet (seldom used). I don't believe it's the progs since I haven't heard much regarding these progs causing issues.

Re: 800w Problems & microsd conflict????

A few things to try:

Remove the SD card and do a hard reset. Test the phone as you normally would. Problems still present its the phone. No probs next step.

Insert the SD card and test. Problems begin then its the card. No probs next step.

Install one prog at a time and test after each program.

I know this is rather lenghty troubleshooting but it will probably be your best to find out what it is unless some one else has a better suggestion. You may also want to check what is running in the background when these issues occur.

This is probably the best advice that you should try out when turning off the phone:

"You may also want to check what is running in the background when these issues occur."

I remember using up 10% of battery life in less than an hour before I figured out that lots of programs were running that I thought wasnt. But then again, you have the Magic Button app.

Re: 800w Problems & microsd conflict????

I'll try taking out the card & see what happens. The issues I've had so far today with this new 800w is whenever I get a missed call & I try to return the call from the missed call alert, it does the automatic hang up with some quick msg saying it can't connect to make a call. I have to manually dial the number. This has happened 7 times since this morning with different numbers. Oh yeah, right now my signal bar is flickering. I have zero progs installed. Not even Magic Button. And in terms of things running in the background, I'm anal about the battery life that everything is shut down completely after use.

My backup phone is a ppc6700 with the og rom that came with it 2 1/2yrs ago. Never bothered updating the rom. I have no issues with it other than the occasional freeze ups that require a soft reset. Everything else works fine. But with Palm, I've gone thru 2 Centros & 3 800w. I can't be this lucky.

I'm am sorry to hear you have had some many issues with Palm. I have not had any issues with my 800 and both my kids have not had issues with their Centros. Did you by chance use the same sd card in the Centros?

This may be a dumb question but are you in an area with poor/spotty coverage? That could explain excessive battery drain because the phone is always searching for a signal. Could also explain the missed calls.

I know with my Centro, when the battery completely died, you had to use the wall charger, the USB charger wasn't good enough to charge the battery. By the way, Palm released an update here that addresses usb and battery charging. Woudn't hurt to give that a try. The only thing is, if you ever do a hard reset, you have to re-install the update. Soft resets are fine.

I'e also heard of early 800w's being returned because of dead phone radios. Maybe yours is giving signs of that. It sucks that you've had 3 800w's so far, I don't think I would be that patient. I'm on my first and so far haven't really had any issues with it.

As the others have suggested, you may want do to a hard reset and start from scratch. I'd even call Sprint and have them re-provision your phone or at least double check and make sure everything is right.

Hope you get things worked out!

Re: 800w Problems & microsd conflict????

Yeah I'm in a good area. I know what you mean with spotty areas missing calls once in a while. The latest issue I'm having right this moment is charging my phone via usb. I left my charger at home & I need to charge at the office. It's charging slowly but the red light doesn't even come on. Actually it took me a few tries because I would plug the usb a few times & the battery charging icon wouldn't even appear. Now it seems to charge just without the red light coming on.

Thanks for the heads up on the usb update. Going to try that. If only I can get Activesync to come on & recognize the new phone. The fun never stops.

Re: 800w Problems & microsd conflict????

if the phone is fully discharged and you are charging it with the USB you must give it about 2-3 minutes for the red light to come on, and at least another 10 -15 minutes to turn the power back on the phone in order to avoid it shutting down immediately, check the FAQ and palms site there is an over the air .cab download you can do without using activesync
