Re: Battery Issue
Ahhh...Let me try with e-care...I will post results later, after I receive response from them
|
Re: Battery Issue
I picked up an extra battery yesterday cost me $30 not a bad price from a sprint store.

Re: Battery Issue
Warranties are only covered by the manufacturer(as im sure you know). Sprint Stores will swap if they have a spare battery (be careful!!!!!). You can get new batteries from the stores you just have to pay for them. I usually suggest going to a service center, if you get a nice enough person they might just give you one because they usually have some laying around. I have done it for customers before.

Re: Battery Issue
UPDATE:
I emailed ecare@cc.sprintpcs.com informing them that I have been a long time customer and that the Treo 800w eats up the battery life etc.... They responded with this Looking upon the inconvenience in this regard, I offer you the free battery for your Treo. I request you to purchase the battery from your nearest Sprint store and write back to me with the scanned copy of purchase receipt. I will apply the credit of that amount on your account which will be adjusted against the next invoice on the account. Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business. Sincerely, Danial Y Sprint Hopefully that helps some peeps out |

Re: Battery Issue
i actually just ask one of the guys from the sprint store and they hooked one up for free. didnt think they would actually give one out.

Re: Battery Issue
when you say sprint store, does it have to be a repair shop?
|
Re: Battery Issue
I went into a Sprint store to buy a spare battery... they didn't have one to sell so the rep went into the back and she brought one out for free. Must have been from the repair center.
Also, I learned that turning off the wireless from the button isn't enought to save battery life... Go to WiFi Prefs and make sure the On Button Press selection is made. Doing that made a huge difference in my battery life. |
Re: Battery Issue
do us all a favor please if you go into a sprint store dont try to fandangle your way to a free battery be honest and go buy one, or else when people have actual battery problems we can get help and the store doesn't assume we are trying to get something for free when we have real complaints.

They are probably just recycling them. Customer comes in with a "bad" battery, gets it exchanged. Next customer comes in with a "bad" battery and gets the one the previous guy just returned (after it's been recharged.) One thing I've learned about battery life with this particular battery and it's probably true for all new batteries: When I first bought my Centro, battery life sucked. I would charge the phone each night and after several weeks battery life improved immensely, at least according to the phone's battery meter. The Treo 800w has been the same way. Battery life initially sucked, then after several weeks of nightly charging, it's great. So, what exactly is happening here? Is the battery being conditioned or is the phone's battery meter just being calibrated so that it's more accurately reporting the actual charge? I don't know. At this point I have no complaints about battery life from my 800w. I'm still trying to get used to it and so far still prefer the Palm OS over WinMo, but that's an issue for another thread. |

Re: Battery Issue
I was unable to get a freebie battery but o well. I really didn't need it. I was just trying just because. I am a pretty light user so I haven't really had to many battery issues.

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with. If they were giving away free buckets of cow dung he would be first in line to get his, simply because it was FREE!!! |

I do not think people should be buying them, or it is in any way wrong to get a free spare, because the reason why the stores are giving free spares is to save Sprint money from returns of entire handsets. Quote:
The way the tech explained it, it isn't that the 800W batteries are "bad" only that their size is very small for the capabilities of the 800W. The next Treo has a much bigger battery because of this problem, but won't fit in our 800Ws. |

I can confirm that my Centro batteries and also my Treo 800w battery life improved after several weeks. I didn't try to see how many days I could get out of it, I simply put it on the charger each night. With the Treo 800w, when I first got it, I would pull it off the charger about 06:00am and by the time I got home at 05:00pm it was something like 20% left or so. Now when I get home it's anywhere from 60 to 80% charged. Same amount of usage. |

As to your usage and remaining battery I can only state I envy you! I don't see how many days I can get out of a charge, I count the hours. |

People want their batteries to last several days but I don't see the logic in NOT charging your battery at night while you are sleeping. If I can get one full day of battery life, that's good enough for me because I simply recharge at night. What I've also done in the past is buy a desktop charger with a slot to charge an extra battery and then just swap out batteries each morning. |
Re: Battery Issue
i went to the sprint store and the lady gave me 3 free batteries :)
|
Re: Battery Issue
3? awesome. I got an extra one myself after reading this thread and seeing how such poor battery life my phone has. I also got a seido hump battery pack hoping it makes a huge difference.

Re: Battery Issue
Speaking of batter life I had a strange experience yesterday with my 800w. Pulled it off the wall charger around 7:30 in the morning and went to work. About 10:00 I pull it out to check email and noticed how warm it was, battery level was down to 55%. Press and hold the OK button and close all running apps and pull the battery to do a soft reset. An hour later I check it and it's warm again and battery down to 30%, by 5 it was dead. WTF is going on, so when I get home I throw it on the charger and by 11pm it's fully charged. Pull it off and leave it over night and this morning it's at 65%.
